Robotic Coding Conquest (RCC) 2026

Robotic Coding Conquest (RCC) 2026, organised by UTB Enterprise Office, continued UTB's annual drive to strengthen Brunei's innovation ecosystem. 55 Students from 11 schools joined free workshops in robotics, AI and IoT delivered with industry partners, culminating in competitions and hackathons applying emerging technologies to real-world and SDG-related challenges.

 

RCC 2026 also delivered an AI workshop for teachers, run in partnership with the Brunei Darussalam Leadership and Teacher Academy (BDLTA) and featuring guest speaker Prof. Dr Claudio Rivera of Riga Technical University, Latvia.

 

 

UTB TechExpo 40 – IP Awards Presentation

 

21st May 2026 - As part of UTB’s TechExpo 40 celebration, a special Intellectual Property (IP) Awards ceremony to recognise nine UTB researchers and inventors for their outstanding achievements in securing IP registrations.

The awards honoured works across copyrights, trade secrets, and industrial design patents, reflecting UTB’s commitment to fostering research excellence, creativity, and innovation that contributes to national development.

Recipients included innovators behind projects such as AI-based aquaculture systems, smart brewing technologies, herbal food innovations, IoT water management, and sustainable energy solutions.

This recognition highlights UTB’s growing role in building a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, while supporting Brunei’s science and technology advancement.

UTB Startup Wins at Innovation Challenge


On 23 April 2026, UTB student startup Seven Co. (Simpang Tujuh Company) secured 2nd place at the Brunei Innovation Lab Innovation Challenge 2026 (Drone Edition). 

Led by PhD student Abdul Muizz Safiuddin Bin Sherin, Team “Drova” achieved this result through multidisciplinary collaboration and design thinking, despite forming just before the competition. The team was mentored by UTB Enterprise Office staff, including Ir. Dr. Ahmad Azlan Bin Ab Aziz (Assistant Professor and Deputy Director, Enterprise Office) and Dr. NorAiman bin Sukindar (Programme Leader, Product Design, UTB) reflecting UTB’s commitment to nurturing innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurial readiness among students.

This achievement highlights UTB’s growing role in supporting startups and strengthening Brunei’s innovation ecosystem.

Enterprise Office Hosts Innovation Forum

24th September 2025 - Enterprise Office, recently held a forum titled “Universities as Catalysts: Strengthening Brunei’s Innovation Ecosystem for STI-Led Development” at the School of Applied Science and Mathematics.

The event brought together experts from academia, industry, and government to discuss entrepreneurship, research innovation, and cross-sector collaboration. Guest speakers included Dr Claudio A. Rivera from Riga Business School, alongside distinguished local panelists, who shared insights on building sustainable innovation pipelines for small nations.

The forum highlighted UTB’s growing role in advancing Brunei’s innovation and entrepreneurship landscape, fostering dialogue and partnerships to support national development.

Throughout 2025, Enterprise Office (EO) delivered over fifteen major milestones spanning Brunei, Latvia, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Panama, strengthening UTB’s innovation ecosystem through IP governance, TISC integration, and start-up pathways; expanding nationwide STEM outreach and robotics development; elevating UTB’s international visibility through Erasmus+ and WIPO platforms; and contributing directly to Brunei’s National Youth and Technology agendas. Enterprise Office continues to strengthen UTB’s role as a national and regional innovation hub—bridging academia, industry, government, and youth ecosystems. Together, these achievements position UTB as a leading catalyst for innovation, talent development, and global collaboration.

Expanding Global Partnerships & Academic Mobility

Dr Claudio A. Rivera delivered a workshop and public lecture on Innovation and Commercialisation marking UTB’s first recorded Erasmus+ staff engagement.

UTB signed MOU with Riga Technical University, Latvia under Erasmus+ (February 2025) that solidifies cooperation on innovation ecosystems, mobility pathways, and joint capacity building.

Driving National STEM Talent, Innovation & Startup Growth

  • EO organised the Robotic Coding Conquest (RCC) 2025 that delivered Brunei’s leading national robotics and coding competition.
  • Expanded UTB’s Adopt-a-School STEM Outreach Program to five (5) schools.
  • UTB Student Startup Tech4Horizon emerged as winner of BICTA 2024/2025 and qualified for APICTA 2025 (June).
  • Mentoring & Supervising Team Brunei – FIRST Global Challenge 2025 (Panama) that oversaw robotics build, leadership training, and sponsorship coordination. UTB came out at top 51 out of 184 countries.

  • Participation in TechXpo 2025 at ICC, Berakas (August 2025)

         UTB showcased robotics, AI, and startup outcomes; reinforced UTB’s status as a national innovation               leader.

  • Participation in the 20th National Youth Day 2025 (August 2025)

As part of STACK 2026, UTB Enterprise Office an the Innovation Sprint Bootcamp, closing with a Project Showcase & Awards Day where student teams from Brunei's technical institutes and universities pitched their prototypes for evaluation and awards in innovation, impact and commercialisation potential.
