Employment period  

August 2025–January 2026 

Salary 

BND 130 per day  

(Part-time position for a maximum of 60 working days distributed across the employment period with a maximum of 10 days per month, including SPK employer contribution rate of 10.5% per month) 

 

Job Descriptions: 

The Research Assistant is expected to: 

  • Assist in the synthesis and fabrication of polymer nanocomposites 
  • Perform laboratory-based thermal and mechanical testing 
  • Collect and analyze experimental data 
  • Support the PI with documentation, reporting, and dissemination activities 
  • Coordinate with collaborators and external testing facilities 

 

Qualification and/or skills requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field 
  • Minimum 2nd Class Upper (or equivalent) 
  • Proficiency in lab work, material characterization, and data interpretation 
  • Good written and verbal English communication 

Brunei Citizens and Permanent Residents only 

Working hours: 

7.5 hours/day (Mon–Thu, Sat) following UTB office hours. Public holidays excluded.

Job Descriptions 

  • Conduct literature reviews to gather relevant articles, books, and other sources related to the research topic – Transport Mobility-Accessibility. This helps the researchers stay updated on the existing knowledge and identify gaps in the literature. 
  • Facilitate in sampling strategy, design questionnaire survey and interviews. 
  • Research assistants assist in performing statistical analyses using software such as Excel or SPSS. This might involve running descriptive statistics, correlations, regression analyses etc. 
  • Creating graphs, charts, and visual representations of data is an important aspect of quantitative research. Research assistants can assist in generating these visuals to help communicate findings effectively. 
  • Research assistant contributes to the data collection interview-analysis process by coding qualitative data. This involves identifying themes, patterns, and concepts within the data.  
  • Research assistant should be aware of ethical guidelines related to data privacy, informed consent, and human subjects' protection, especially when dealing with sensitive or personal data. 
  • Research assistant contribute to the writing of research reports, articles, and presentations. He/she might help with the draft of report/articles, and in some cases, co-authorship on publications might be possible. 
  • Effective communication and teamwork are essential as research assistants collaborate closely with lead researchers, to ensure the smooth progress of the research project. 
  • Research assistant should be adaptable to changing project requirements and be open to learning new skills as the research progresses. 

 

Person Specifications 

Essential 

  • Postgraduate degree in relevant subject of the research topic preferably in transport mobility-accessibility study. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups. 
  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate actively within the University and externally to complete research projects and advance thinking. 
  • Able to balance the pressures of research, administrative demands and competing deadlines. 
  • IT proficiency of MS Office, SPSS. 
  • Fluent in English and Malay.  
  • Evidence of conducting and managing research project dissertation/thesis level. 
  • Ability to conceptualise with high degree of analytical thinking. 

 

Desirable 

  • Knowledgeable in transport mobility study. 
  • Evidence of academic research in relevant topic at postgraduate level. 
  • Familiarity with data collection-analysis of quantitative and qualitative

Principal Investigator (PI)

60 days between 01/08/2025 to 31/10/2025 

Salary rate

Job descriptions: 

The Research Assistant is expected to carry out the works pertaining to the project as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigators, which include the following: 

  • Carrying out systematic literature review 
  • Organising and conducting focus group 
  • Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data 

 

Other Expectations: 

  • Research assistant should report to the PI of the project. 
  • Research assistant should follow the agreed work schedule and if required it may be updated with the consent of the PI. 
  • Research assistant is required to work 7 ½ hours per day, following regular Government office hours (Monday – Thursday, Saturday 7.45am – 12.15pm; 1.30 – 4.30pm) OR as agreed with the PI. 
  • Public holidays will not be used as working days. 
  • Research assistant will work for a maximum of 5 days per month. 
  • Research assistant is required to keep a daily logbook, and attendance is to be verified by the PI for purpose of calculations of allowance/payment. 

 

 

Qualification and/or skills requirement: 

  • The following qualifications will be needed: 
  • At least a second-class honours Bachelor degree, or equivalent (preferably in Data Analysis related programmes), recognised by the National Accreditation Council of Brunei Darussalam. 
  • At least a credit or equivalent in English Language GCE O-level or an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 or its equivalent. The English Language requirements may be waived where qualifying studies in Higher Education were in the medium of English Language. 
  • Good work ethic, effective time management, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 
  • Knowledge in qualitative and quantitiave analysis and research methodologies are added advantage.  
  • Familiar with statistical analysis tools/equipment/software (e.g., SPSS, R Studio), and quantitative tools (e.g., NVIVO). 
  • Good communication skills, in both oral and written English. 
  • Good report writing. 
  • Ability to interpret data.

BND 130 per day (maximum of 47 working days spread across the employment period with the maximum of 12 working days per month, including SPK contribution rate of 9.5% per month) 

 

Job Descriptions: 

RA should carry out the works pertaining to the project as assigned by the Principal Investigator(s) or Co-Investigator(s), and they may include but not limited to the following: 

  • Manage and regularly update the progress of the project; 
  • Assist in the researching the digital content for the project; 
  • Assist in preparing digital presentation of the project; 
  • Design and develop an online database system to verify the UTB academic certificate 
  • Design and develop a blockchain-based digital academic certificate and validate it using any API using smart contracts. 
  • Test and deploy the solution using the UTB UG students’ data (anonymous data) at UTB; 
  • Assist in the various stages (pre, actual and post) of the solution; 
  • Other duties relevant to the project or activities of the research centre when required; 

 

Other Expectations: 

  • Research Assistant (RA) should report to the Principal Investigator(s) of the project. 
  • RA should follow work schedule as prepared by the Principal Investigator(s).

  • The appointee should have an overall understanding of software development and report writing.
