Self-injury Awareness Day (SIAD)

Friday, 1st March is Self-Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) and March is Self-Injury Awareness Month.  SIAD is an international awareness day and is a day meant for learning about self-injury behaviors and for providing resources to those who are in need of help. Its purpose is to remove the stigma attached to self-injury, and to encourage parents, family members, educators, and healthcare professionals to recognise the signs of self-harm.

An orange ribbon, representing a sign of hope for a misunderstood problem, symbolises this awareness day.

The Counselling Unit is delighted to be promoting SIAD throughout the entire month of March in UTB commencing on Monday, 2nd March.

A SIAD banner will be placed at the Lobby to mark this important campaign.

500 orange ribbons will be distributed around the Campus for staff and students for free to encourage awareness of self-injury in UTB.

A Digital Display showcasing a slide show about self-injury will be made available at two locations: the Lobby and the Library,

Flyers about SIAD will also be placed at main areas in the Campus.

So wear an orange ribbon, an orange wristband, tie, socks, shirt, scarf or anything orange in March to show your support of this awareness campaign!
