In the latest QS World University Rankings 2026, UTB is positioned at 578 globally, reinforcing its position among the top universities worldwide. Within the ASEAN region, UTB is ranked 9th among all technology and engineering universities, affirming its role as a regional leader in science, technology and innovation. These accomplishments reflect the university’s firm commitment to academic excellence and delivering world-class education that meets global standards.
In the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, UTB is ranked 134th among over 600 institutions evaluated across the continent. This significant advancement is a testament to UTB’s continuous growth and global visibility. The QS Asia rankings, published annually since 2009, assess universities based on criteria including global reputation, research impact and productivity, teaching commitment, and internationalisation. This achievement reflects UTB's status as a leading institution and places it comfortably above numerous well-established universities globally such as South China University of Technology (147), University of Seoul (166), INTI International University (170), Chiba University (175), and the University of Calcutta (179), among others.
UTB places sustainability at the heart of its development. The university views sustainability as a continuous and transformative journey, embedded across its academic programmes, research agenda, campus operations, and community initiatives. This was recognised in the latest QS Sustainability Rankings 2025, with UTB placed within the 1251-1300 band globally, ranked 442nd in Asia and among the top 75 universities in Southeast Asia. This recognition highlights UTB’s active contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its efforts in promoting environmental stewardship, inclusive education, and social responsibility.
UTB has also made a significant breakthrough by debuting in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings in 2025 and is currently positioned within the 801-1000 band globally. THE Rankings evaluate more than 2000 institutions across 115 countries, assessing performance in teaching, research, industry engagement, and international outlook. This remarkable achievement places UTB among the top 23 universities in ASEAN and ranked 6th among Southeast Asia Engineering and Technology Universities, further validating its commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness.
UTB is also ranked in the THE Asia University Rankings 2025, where it is placed in the 301-350 band, reflecting its growing reputation across the continent. Additionally, UTB is ranked in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, which measure universities' contributions to the UN SDGs, and is placed within the 801-1000 band globally, focusing on SDG 1 No Poverty, SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 17 Partnership for the Goals. This marks an important milestone in UTB’s journey towards sustainability, community engagement, and social impact.
Beyond rankings, UTB continues to take a leading role in fostering academic collaboration through regional and international networks. As an active member of the Asia Technological University Network (ATU-Net), UTB regularly participates in joint initiatives to advance research, innovation, and education in Asia. In 2023, UTB hosted the 11th ATU-Net Board Meeting as part of its annual UTB Science, Technology and Engineering Connect (UTB-STE Connect) event, which convened leading figures from technological universities across the region. Additionally, UTB proudly hosted and co-organized the KUUB Convention 2024, a major academic gathering that brought together representatives from 17 member universities and higher education institutions across Borneo, serving as a platform for fostering regional collaboration and addressing key challenges.
