The Vice-Chancellor's Address marked the beginning of Orientation Week 2023/2024 at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Phase 3 of the university. 584 students who have been admitted for the academic year 2023/2024 were welcomed, comprising of those pursuing undergraduate degree programmes, taught master’s degree programmes, and graduate research studies.

The event commenced with Selawat Tafrijiyah followed by the recitation of Al-Qur’an verses by Yang Mulia Awang Muhammad Nur Hazim Wafiuddin bin Hj Kamaruzzaman, a third-year student pursuing BEng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. The translation was read by Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Khaliq bin Saifullizan, third-year student undertaking BSc. (Hons) in Computing (Major in Network Security).

The event was then followed by Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, UTB Vice-Chancellor, delivered a welcoming address and congratulated the new students as they embark on their educational pursuits at UTB. 

The new intake of students for the academic year 2023/2024 then participated in an oath-taking ceremony in the presence of principal officers, lecturers, and staff. To mark the conclusion of the ceremony, a multimedia slideshow was presented, followed by the recitation of Doa Selamat.

The orientation week, organised by the Student Affairs Office and Student Representative Council of UTB (MPPUTB), aims to facilitate a smooth transition into university life for new students. Taking place from 17 to 18 July 2023 and resuming from 20 to 23 July 2023, this week-long programme offers a diverse range of activities and informative sessions specifically designed to support students during their transition.

Throughout the orientation week, students can benefit from a variety of engaging activities. This includes informative briefings by relevant offices and sections of UTB, introductions by the Schools and Faculty, engaging talks by guest speakers from various organisations covering topics such as career, religious, and awareness, providing students with valuable insights and knowledge.

Additionally, there are campus tours to familiarise the students with the university’s facilities, services, and campus layout. Volunteering opportunities are also available, enabling students to actively engage with the community and cultivate their leadership and teamwork skills, among others.

Prior to the orientation week, Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) booths were set up on campus. These booths showcase the wide range of activities, organisations and clubs available for new students to explore and join. It gives students the opportunity to discover their interests and passions, and actively participate in extracurricular activities that align with their preferences.
