Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) through Campus LEAD of the School of Applied Sciences & Mathematics (SASM), in collaboration with Jari-Jari Ku, a non-government organisation that advocates for people with hearing disabilities, organised a virtual sign language workshop for students of the university.

The workshop was led by Dr. Hajah Norbayah binti Haji Shahminan, Chief Executive Facilitator and Interpreter from Jari-Jari Ku.

A total of 30 UTB students joined the two-hour virtual workshop where they were taught the basics of sign language, including finger-spelling and how to indicate commonly used words and questions.

At the end of the workshop, the students were expected to have basic understanding on the importance of sign languages. It is hoped that the event can further instill students’ interest in learning sign languages and able to practice it with people with hearing disabilities.
