The Quality Assurance Office (QAO) is the prime focus for the quality systems, procedures and processes that govern all academic matters within the University. It is under the remit of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and the activities of the office are guided by the University Quality Assurance Committee, which reports to Senate.
The objectives of QAO are to:
Under the UTB Internal Quality Assurance Framework, a number of academic quality assurance instruments are under the purview of the Office including the Module and Teaching Staff Evaluation (MTSE) student feedback surveys, the Peer Evaluation of Teaching (PET), module boxes for External Moderators and accreditation bodies, as well as regular module, subject and programme reviews. These complement various other QA instruments including External Moderators and Examiners, Student-Staff Committees, industry advisory/liaison committees, Academic Organisation and Study Regulations, information management, and accreditation reports.
These instruments collectively enable a comprehensive and holistic approach to continuously monitor and obtain feedback from internal and external stakeholders including students, industry employers and the wider community, in accordance with international best practices. By therefore upholding the quality of UTB programmes to align with national and international standards, this has culminated in the successful accreditation of various UTB programmes by international professional institutions.
