Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) In Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering

> Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering

Code: E103

The BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering programme develops the knowledge and skills of students in the engineering of structures and buildings, in addition to fundamental civil infrastructure. This is achieved through a greater emphasis on analytical and design modules in structural engineering, as well as final year research and design projects focussing on structural engineering. This programme prepares graduates to meet the challenges of the 21st century civil and structural engineering, which includes the design and construction of sustainable structures, serviceability of structures, and development and use of innovative materials, processes and practices. Graduates are expected to have a greater ability to develop solutions to complex problems, as well as the intellectual resourcefulness and resilience to adapt to challenges beyond the norm; these attributes are highly sought after by employers.

Future Careers

Graduates are expected to be able to progress towards become a professionally qualified civil or structural engineer. Career opportunities are available in a wide range of organisations such as in public works, consulting and construction companies, civil aviation, road and transportation authorities, environmental protection authorities, as well as the oil and gas industry. Furthermore, graduates are equipped with fundamental problem-solving and numeracy skills which enable them to adapt to the challenges of working in many other industries, as well as in research and development.
