Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The Master of Science by Research in Electrical and Electronic Engineering are research-based programmes, where the students conduct an advanced and original academic research project in a specialised area of electrical and electronic engineering under the supervision of suitably qualified and experienced academic staff members.

Over the supervised period of research, the students will gain the experience, knowledge and skills associated with conducting significant research work in electrical and electronic engineering. The programmes will also equip the students with highly-specialised analytical, problem-solving and transferable skills that will enable them to subsequently embark onto a successful career as academics, researchers or practitioners in electrical and electronic engineering or other related professions.

 

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants for admission to MSc (by Research) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering must satisfy the following minimum general and programme-specific entry requirements:

  • A minimum of a lower Second-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related discipline that is recognised by the Senate of UTB.

AND

  • At least a credit or equivalent in English Language GCE O-level or a valid IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 or its equivalent.
    The IELTS or TOEFL must be taken within 2 years of the start date of the programme. The English Language requirements may be waived where qualifying studies in Higher Education were in the medium of English Language. Where candidates completed their higher education more than 2 years prior to their current application they will need to show that they have continued to study or work in the medium of English.

AND

  • Submit a satisfactory research proposal as determined by the postgraduate admission committee of the programme area.

Mature applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, recognised by the Senate of UTB, at least 3 years of relevant working experience, pass an interview and/or entry test, and fulfill the same English language proficiency criteria above.

Candidates with other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Note that a candidate will only be offered a place if the programme area is able to provide adequate supervision and facilities in the candidate’s chosen area of research.
