A Warm Greeting from Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Happy New Year 2024. May we have a blessed and successful 2024. Amin.

Alhamdulillah, 2023 has been a great year for Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). We held our inaugural UTB-STE Connect 2023 in conjunction with the conferment of an Honorary Doctorate to His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pro-Chancellor of UTB. A major achievement for UTB School of Business was its first accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) for its Bachelor and Master programmes.

Please allow me now to introduce UTB, an Engineering and Technological University in Negara Brunei Darussalam. It was first established in 1986 as an Institut Teknologi Brunei and upgraded to a university status in 2008 before it changed its name to Universiti Teknologi Brunei in 2016. We are a small university under 50 years of age, with about 1,869 students (1,618 undergraduates and 251 postgraduates), 144 academic staff, and 112 support staff (256 staff in total). The academic Faculty, Schools, and centres are: (1) Faculty of Engineering; (2) UTB School of Business; (3) School of Computing and Informatics; (4) School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics; (5) School of Design; and (6) Centre of Communication, Teaching, and Learning. The three research centres are transport, innovative engineering, and Agri-food science and technology.

We are now embarking on a new Strategic Plan for 2024-2028. Our Mission is to produce towering talents for a sustainable, global and enterprising society deeply rooted in our national philosophy (MIB) towards realising Wawasan Brunei 2035. UTB aspires to fulfil its vision by being “A Global University of the Future”.

Alhamdulillah, UTB is ranked in the World, Asia, and ASEAN and ranked in Sustainability 2024. In 2021, UTB was the only Southeast Asian university to receive the prestigious QS 5-Star Plus rating for an outstanding university.

The presence of industries and professional associations on campus is a testament to our close relationship. We have Pertubuhan Ukur, Jurutera and Arkitek (PUJA), Huawei Academy, CISCO, Sand Screen Modelling, and Artificial and Machine Learning Laboratories.

Lastly, I would like to emphasise that producing marketable graduates remains the most important agenda of our university. Our curriculum has to remain dynamic, strategic, and at par with the world’s best practices to meet the demands of the global job market. While at UTB, they will be able to develop a range of attributes and skills for life and work. Insya’Allah, our graduates will become integral to our nation’s growth and development.
