Fully patented with UTB as the owner, the innovation supports Brunei’s STEM education initiatives and will represent the country at the APICTA Awards.

UTB also received the Smart Nation Award under the Agriculture Category for its project AlQuatic AquaFeeder, developed by AlQuatic Enterprise. The AlQuatic AquaFeeder (AAF) is an innovative automated feeding system designed to tackle challenges in prawn aquaculture, such as inefficient feeding, high costs, feed waste, nutrient pollution, and inconsistent growth. Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and renewable energy, the AAF employs a camera system and AI algorithms for real-time detection and precise size estimation of prawns, thereby improving sustainability and operational efficiency in aquaculture practices.

BICTA is an annual ICT competition co-organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), the Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), and the InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB).
