In conjunction with the inauguration of the Green Protocol Tree Planting Campaign, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) along with other higher education institutions and schools under the Ministry of Education took part in planting a total of 2000 saplings. It is one of the activities held at the university campus prior to the UTB Convocation ceremony which will be held on 12 February 2022.

The event took place at the ISLE Garden and around Phase 3 of the University campus. About 133 saplings were planted by staff, students, and alumni of the university. The event was spearheaded by the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah Binti Haji Sulaiman.

According to the Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change, as one of the key strategies to transition Brunei Darussalam into low carbon and climate-resilient nation, increasing forest cover would increase the carbon sink, which would positively impact the habitats, biodiversity, and ecosystems of the country.

The ten key strategies to combat the climate change issues need to be achieved in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035 and cover areas about industrial emissions, forest cover, electric vehicles, renewable energy, power management, carbon pricing, waste management, carbon inventory, climate resilience and adaptation, and, awareness and education.
