Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) officially launched its flagship biennial congress, UTB Science, Technology and Engineering Connect 2025 (UTB-STE Connect 2025), marking its second edition following the success of the inaugural 2023 congress. Themed “Technology Innovations for a Sustainable Future,” the event provided a platform for academics, scientists, researchers, engineers, industry experts and other stakeholders to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and propose innovative solutions addressing contemporary sustainability challenges.
The Opening Ceremony took place at the Main Conference Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas. The ceremony was graced by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the UTB Council.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat. This was followed by a welcoming speech by Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB. Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Hj Md Salleh, the Minister of Education and Chairperson of the UTB Council then delivered the opening speech and officiated the opening ceremony of UTB-STE Connect 2025.
A multimedia presentation was then showcased, followed by a plenary session delivered by Yang Mulia Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University. The ceremony concluded with a token of appreciation presented to the plenary speaker.
UTB-STE Connect 2025 is co-organised with the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), ASEAN University Network (AUNSEED-NET), COMSTECH, IBM, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Sunway University, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB), Kumaraguru College of Technology, and Aligarh Muslim University. The congress features a diverse programme structured around five conferences and six featured events, offering a broad spectrum of topics and discussions.
The five conferences included:
• 10th Brunei International Conference on Engineering & Technology (BICET 2025). Organised by the Faculty of Engineering, UTB with the theme ‘Innovation in Engineering and Technology towards a Sustainable Society’.
• 7th International Conference on Applied Computational Intelligence in Information Systems (ACIIS 2025). Organised by The School of Computing and Informatics, UTB with the theme ‘Intelligent and Resilient Digital Innovations for Sustainable Living’.
• 3rd International Conference on Business, Management and Information Systems (ICBMIS 2025). Organised by UTB School of Business with the theme ‘Leveraging Technology Innovations for Sustainable Business Practices, Management, Accounting, and Economic Development’.
• 2nd International Conference on Agrotechnology, Beverage and Food (ICABF 2025). Organised by the School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics, UTB with the theme ‘Technology for Sustainable Agriculture, Nutritious Beverage and Food Security’.
• 2nd International Conference on Creative Arts Design and Technology (ICCArTe 2025). Organised by the School of Design, UTB with the theme ‘Creative and Conservative Culture towards Sustainable and Innovative Design’.
The congress will also feature the 3rd UTB University Presidents’ Forum, the 2nd UTB Women Leadership Forum, the 1st Global Conference on Industrial, Materials, and Manufacturing (GCIMM), the Postgraduate Colloquium, the ASEAN Sustainable Ready Summit for Industry 5.0 Programme (SRI 5.0), and Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Coordination.
Held from 20 to 22 October 2025 in a hybrid format, the congress continues to provide an excellent platform for intellectual discourse, knowledge exchange and collaboration among participants from around the globe. Attendees gained insights into emerging technologies, explored innovative solutions for sustainable development, and engaged in discussions that strengthened regional and international research and industry networks.
