> UTB SCHOLAR’S PHD PURSUIT COMMEMORATED AT SIGNING CEREMONY

A momentous signing ceremony marked the recognition of the recipient of UTB's prestigious Scholars Scheme, held today at the Pearl Building, Phase 2 of the university.  

Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education.

Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, UTB Vice-Chancellor, along with UTB Principal Officers, staff, and invited guests.

The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa
Kesyukuran followed by a welcoming speech delivered by Yang Mulia Awang Lim Chui Hua, Registrar and Secretary of UTB.  

The event then proceeded with the signing of an official agreement between Dayang Siti Nur Naqibah binti Reduan, witnessed by her father Awang Reduan bin Haji Hussin, and Yang Mulia Dr. Dayang Hajah Ena Kartina binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic), witnessed by Yang Mulia Awang Lim Chui Hua. 

Dayang Siti Nur Naqibah binti Reduan, a remarkable student, has been selected as the recipient of UTB's Scholars Scheme. She has been granted the opportunity to pursue her doctorate degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the renowned Imperial College London in the United Kingdom for a duration of four years. Upon successful completion of her doctorate degree, she will be appointed as a Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Programme Area at UTB.

She expressed her sense of fulfilment in pursuing her passion and dedicating herself to inspiring the next generation, especially women in male-dominated fields. Her vision encompasses the development of professional-level research skills, active participation in the global research community, and the courage to tackle significant global challenges. Over the next decade, she envisions herself as an integral part of UTB, actively contributing to the university’s growth and continued success.

Her aspirations are geared towards becoming a role model for others, serving as a problem-solver in her field, and contributing to UTB’s transformation into a globally renowned university that leaves a profound impact on society. She seeks to contribute to knowledge enrichment and address issues related to sustainable infrastructure, aligning her goals with Brunei Vision 2035 and UTB’s vision.

“I want to be someone whom people look up to for resolving challenges in my particular field. I aspire to help UTB grow into a global university that impacts society, to contribute to the enrichment of knowledge and help solve issues related to infrastructure, among others, and to fulfil the Brunei Vision 2023 and UTB’s Vision.”

Furthermore, she offers valuable advice to others, encouraging them to pursue their passion and exhibit resilience in the face of challenges. Emphasising the importance of embracing failures as stepping stones to success, she urges individuals to maintain a positive mindset and believe in the potential for favourable outcomes. She stated. “To anyone who’s ever failed and been in a dark place, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Keep going, it may not work out today but it sure will tomorrow. Have the mindset of ‘What if everything works out for you.”

The Scholars Scheme is a distinguished award bestowed upon deserving students that celebrates their exceptional academic achievements, admirable character, and remarkable leadership potential. This prestigious scheme seeks to empower and support students who are not only academically accomplished but also driven by a passion for driving positive change and making a significant impact on society.
