> UTB RECIPIENTS OF CANADA-SEED SCHOLARSHIP LEFT FOR CANADA

Five Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) students who were awarded Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) scholarships left for Canada this evening to begin a four-month study abroad programme at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The students include Dk Nur Badzlina Amanina Puteri bte Pg Mohd Caesar, Awang Khairul Danial Ikhwan bin Abdul Ahad, and Muhammad Azizi bin Haji Ariffin from the UTB School of Business; Awang Muhammad Muizzuddin bin Mahdi from the School of Computing and Informatics; and Awang Muhammad Syafi bin Muhammad ‘Azmin from the Faculty of Engineering.

Present to bid farewell were Her Excellency Ambra Dickie, High Commissioner of Canada in Brunei Darussalam. Also present were Yang Mulia Dr Mohamad Saiful bin Hj Omar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB; Yang Mulia Mr Lim Chui Hua, Registrar and Secretary of UTB; Student Affairs Officers; Administration Officers; and Corporate Communications Office members.

The Canada-ASEAN SEED programme offers students, from ASEAN member countries short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

This programme aims to reduce poverty in the developing countries of ASEAN and to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The scholarships and educational exchanges will contribute towards the achievement of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Eight students from UTB have been awarded the Canada-ASEAN SEED scholarships, making them the Sultanate’s first recipients. Dayang Auji Haziqah binti Haji Mustapa from Centre for Communication, Teaching, and Learning (CCTL), left for Brock University, Canada in August last year. Whereas Dayang Izeyaan binti Idham Khalid from School of Computing and Informatics and Awangku Syazwan bin Pengiran Sulaiman from School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics will depart for Canada later this year.
