Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), through its Centre for Transport Research (CfTR), participated in the Road Safety Outreach Programme 2026 held at Politeknik Lumut, which attracted approximately 400 participants, mainly comprising young and novice drivers.

The one-day programme, organised in conjunction with Road Safety Action 2030 under the auspices of the Brunei Darussalam National Road Safety Council (MKKJR), aimed to raise awareness and promote responsible driving behaviour among young road users. The event featured a forum session followed by an interactive exhibition as part of the outreach activities.

In her welcoming remarks, Dr Hjh Wida Susanty Haji Suhaili, Director of UTB’s Centre for Transport Research (CfTR), highlighted that road safety extends beyond enforcement and begins with the everyday decisions made by road users. She emphasised the importance of cultivating safe driving habits at an early stage, noting that behaviours formed during the initial years of driving often persist throughout a lifetime.

The forum session brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Police Traffic Department (JSKLL), MKKJR, Motorcyclist Federation (PEMODA), and the Brunei Darussalam Cyclist Federation (BDCF), providing participants with valuable insights into road safety enforcement, policy implementation, and the protection of vulnerable road users.

The event continued with an interactive exhibition and outreach segment coordinated by MKKJR, where participating agencies—including JSKLL, BOMBA, EMAS, JKR, CfTR, BDCF, and PEMODA, engaged students through educational booths, live demonstrations, and information-sharing activities. These activities focused on traffic regulations, hazard awareness, safe riding practices, and emergency response, offering hands-on learning opportunities and practical road safety guidance.

The outreach programme reinforced the key message that the road is a shared space and that safety is a shared responsibility, encouraging young and novice drivers to adopt safer road-use habits in line with the national goals of Road Safety Action 2030.
