19 January 2026 - Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) today officially launched its 40th Anniversary Celebrations, marking four decades of continuous growth, institutional transformation, and contribution to Brunei Darussalam’s higher education and technological advancement.
His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro- Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), graciously consented to officiate the launching of the University’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations, held at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
Founded not merely as an institution of higher learning, UTB emerged as a national response to the need for an education system shaped by Brunei Darussalam’s post-independence priorities, moving beyond colonial-era structures towards self-sustained national development.
Established in 1986, UTB has since evolved from a technical institute into a fully-fledged leading technological university, playing an important role in producing skilled, industry-ready graduates and supporting the nation’s aspiration towards a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy. Over the past four decades, UTB has remained steadfast in its mission to integrate education, research, innovation, and industry collaboration, in line with national development priorities.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming address by Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Profesor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB and Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the Official Launch of UTB’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted UTB’s journey across four decades, noting its expansion in academic programmes, research capacity, and strategic partnerships with government agencies, industry, and international institutions. She reaffirmed UTB’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with strong technical expertise, ethical values, and global perspectives.
His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince, then consented to deliver SabdaPerasmian and officially marking the commencement of the 40th anniversary celebrations of UTB.
A special celebratory video was subsequently shown, presenting reflections from past and current Ministers and Vice-Chancellors, reflecting UTB’s milestones and institutional development over the years. This was followed by the presentation of Special 40th Anniversary Awards, honouring individuals whose dedication and service have significantly contributed to UTB’s development and legacy.
