> UTB MASTER STUDENT UNDERTAKES RESEARCH INTERNSHIP AT OSAKA UNIVERSITY JAPAN

A master's student from the Food Science and Technology Programme Area, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics (SASM) of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Dayang Hajah Wafiqah Haji Daim left for Japan to engage in research activities at Osaka University for a year. Through the support of Japan Student Service Organisation (JASSO), she will perform  research on bio-based food packaging materials utilizing state-of-the-art equipment at Department of Applied Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, hosted by Professor Dr Hiroshi Uyama.

Present to bid farewell were Yang Mulia Professor Dr Duraisamy Sankar, Deputy Dean of SASM, Yang Mulia Dr Syazana Abdullah Lim, focal person for UTB-OU collaboration, Yang Mulia Dr Eng Tong Phuah, Programme Leader of Food Science and Technology Programme Area, and Yang Mulia Dr Aida Maryam Basri, Lecturer of Food Science and Technology Programme Area. Prior to the departure, Doa Selamat was recited by Yang Mulia Ustaz Md Fazalley bin Hj Hidup.

The research internship is part of collaboration between UTB and Osaka University ASEAN Campus SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Co-Creation Programme organised by the Centre for Global Initiatives (GLOCOL) of Osaka University. This activity aims to strengthen the students’ scientific insights, broaden their international network, and produce research outputs by conducting extensive research in a well-established lab.
