14 May 2025 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) has officially expanded its strategic partnership with Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at strengthening education and career opportunities to advance ICT, Cloud Computing, 5G, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The MoU was signed by Dr. Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB, and Mr. Tong Wei Shiang, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd. The ceremony was held at the UTB Main Conference Room and attended by university officials, Huawei representatives, faculty members, and invited guests.
The agreement builds upon the foundation laid by the Huawei ICT Academy at UTB, which was launched in March 2021. Since then, the partnership has delivered impactful educational experiences, with high student engagement and international recognition.
In his remarks, Dr. Saiful stated:
"This MoU signing elevates our collaboration into crucial fields like Cloud Computing, 5G, and AI—technologies shaping the global digital economy where our students must develop leadership skills.
Our Huawei ICT Academy has achieved remarkable success, winning Global and APAC Finals awards plus the Green Development Award, demonstrating our ability to produce technically skilled, globally competitive graduates with sustainability awareness.
Expanding from HCIA to HCIP certifications while enhancing internship opportunities creates a clear education-to-career pathway, ensuring graduates are industry-ready contributors to innovation."
The MoU underscores UTB and Huawei’s mutual commitment to cultivating Brunei’s digital talent pool and advancing the country’s digital transformation. It includes expanded access to professional certification programmes, industry-led workshops, competitions, and real-world training opportunities.
This collaboration is expected to further position UTB as a leading institution for future-ready education in Brunei and the region.
