Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) celebrated the academic achievements of its students and the professional excellence of its academic and non-academic staff at the annual Excellence Award Ceremony 2025.

Held in conjunction with the UTB Convocation Ceremony 2025, the event took place at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.

The ceremony recognised outstanding achievements across multiple categories, including the Staff Excellence Award (SEA), the Chancellor’s Award, the Graduate Excellence Award, the Publication Award, the Dean’s List Award, and the Co-Curricular Activities Award, also known as the Student Achievement Passport (SAP) Award. The event also featured the People’s Choice Award for UTB Project Showcase 2025.

The Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the UTB Council.

Also present were His Excellency Mr Xiao Jianguo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China; Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB; and other members of the UTB Council.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by welcoming remarks from the UTB Vice-Chancellor.

At the ceremony, the Guest of Honour presented awards to the recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards (SEA), recognising their achievements in teaching, research and administrative excellence among both academic and non-academic staff, as well as a Special Mention Award category.

This year, 18 exceptional academics and staff members were awarded for their exemplary service to the University this year. The main award recipients each received a commemorative plaque, a certificate of recognition, and a cash prize of BND$1,000.00, while those granted the Special Mention Award were presented with certificates acknowledging their contributions.

Teaching Excellence Awards 2025

  • Dr Lee Kok Yueh, Assistant Professor and Deputy Dean of the Centre for Communication, Teaching, and Learning.

 

  • Noor Deenina Salleh binti Hj Md Salleh, Lecturer from the School of Computing and Informatics, and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research on Agri-Food Science and Technology.

 

Research Excellence Awards 2025

The Staff Excellence Award was introduced in 2015 and is celebrated annually to honour the outstanding contributions of both academic and non-academic staff to the success of the University in achieving its strategic goals.

The ceremony then continued with the Guest of Honour presenting the Graduate Excellence Awards, recognising graduates across various categories who not only successfully completed their studies but also excelled in their respective academic programmes. The awards highlighted the hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievements of these individuals as they marked the completion of their academic journey at UTB.

The Guest of Honour also presented the Chancellor’s Medal Award to Dayang Basma Lachkar, a graduate from the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Communication for her astounding accomplishments. In addition to her academic excellence, she is a distinguished national Wushu athlete who has represented Brunei Darussalam in numerous regional and international competitions, bringing pride and recognition to the nation. Her dedication to both her studies and athletic pursuits reflects an exceptional standard of commitment, discipline, and perseverance, serving as an inspiration to her peers and future graduates of UTB.

The event then continued with the presentation of the Dean’s List Award, Co-Curricular Activities, and the People’s Choice Award.

The Dean's List Awards were presented to 55 deserving students from across UTB's faculties and schools. These recipients were recognised for their exceptional academic performance, having demonstrated remarkable scholastic achievement throughout their studies. This prestigious honour acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and intellectual prowess of these high-achieving students across various disciplines within the university.

In addition, twelve students were acknowledged for their exceptional involvement in co-curricular activities, with awards spanning diverse areas such as Outstanding Life Skill Achiever, Religious Award (Male), Religious Award (Female), Community Service Achiever, Culture Award, Sportsman and Sportswoman of UTB, and a Special Mention category.

The event also celebrated innovation, with eleven recipients earning the People's Choice Award for their contributions to the UTB Project Showcase 2025. This comprehensive recognition underscores UTB's commitment to fostering well-rounded excellence among its student body.
