His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), today graciously consented to officiate the 11th UTB Convocation Festival 2026 at the university’s Multi-Purpose Hall.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was received by the Minister of Education and Chair of the UTB Council, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Development and Deputy Chairperson of the UTB Council, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, and UTB Vice-Chancellor, Yang Mulia Associate Professor Pengiran Dr Mohamad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra.
Also in attendance were members of the UTB Council, senior government officials, invited guests, UTB staff, members of the Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP), and students.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mustafa bin Haji Awang Murat, Pegawai Masjid, Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kampong Kiarong.
His Royal Highness then consented to officiate the 11th UTB Convocation Festival 2026, followed by the recitation of Takbir and a multimedia presentation highlighting UTB’s achievements and journey.
The programme continued with a vibrant showcase of cultural performances by UTB students, such as traditional music, theatrical monologue, and UTB traditional dance by UTB Performing Arts Group, and a contemporary performance by the UTB Korean Hanwoori Club.
His Royal Highness subsequently toured the exhibition themed “Celebrating 40 Years of Talent and Innovation”, which commemorates UTB’s four-decade journey and its continued commitment to nurturing talent, advancing innovation and creating impact across disciplines.
The exhibition reflects UTB’s role in preparing graduates with the knowledge, skills and values to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable, enterprising and globally connected future.
Prior to departing, His Royal Highness graciously consented to receive a Pesambah from the UTB Student Representative Council, themed “Lestari Ilmu, Gemilang Negara”, symbolising the aspirations of UTB students to contribute their knowledge and talents towards the nation’s development.
His Royal Highness also consented to a photography session with members of the UTB Student Representative Council 2026/2027.
A series of activities have been lined up throughout the 11th UTB Convocation Festival, including Majlis Khatam Al-Quran, the 8th Sports Fiesta, UT-Bersamamu 3.0, UTB Carnival 2026, UTBerjaya 2026, UTB Deenovation, Drive the Change: Innovation and Sustainability, UTB Healing Day, Mental Health Week, and International Culture Day.
The annual Convocation Festival celebrates the achievements of UTB’s graduating students and serves as a platform to showcase their talents, creativity, research and innovations.
The 14th UTB Convocation Ceremony will be held on 26 August 2026 at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre, Berakas, where the university’s graduating students will receive their degrees.
Another highlight of the Convocation Festival was the official launch of a smart electric vehicle (EV) charging station by UTB’s Centre for Transport Research (CfTR), marking another significant step in the university’s efforts to advance sustainable mobility.
Building on the Solar PV-powered EV charging station established in June 2023, the new facility was developed in collaboration with Han S.L. Sdn Bhd. It is equipped with two 22 kW Level 2 AC charging points, enabling two electric vehicles to be charged simultaneously.
The charging station is accessible to UTB staff, students and members of the public through the EZ Charge mobile application. To commemorate its launch, EV charging will be offered free of charge for one month.
The initiative demonstrates CfTR’s commitment to translating research and innovation into practical solutions that contribute to national sustainability priorities, including the Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change’s National Climate Change Policy, particularly Strategy 3 on Renewable Energy and Strategy 4 on Electric Vehicles, while supporting the broader aspirations of Wawasan Brunei 2035.
