His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), consented to officiate the seventh UTB Convocation Festival 2022. The event took place at the Teratak Putih, Phase 2, UTB.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Pro-Chancellor of UTB was greeted by the Minister of Education and Chair of UTB Council, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md. Salleh and UTB Vice-Chancellor, Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman.

Also present at the ceremony were members of UTB Council, senior government officials, staffs, and students of UTB.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince then consented to officiate the seventh UTB Convocation Festival 2022, followed by the call of Takbir and a multimedia show.

The ceremony then proceeded with His Royal Highness consenting to view the ‘Science, Technology and Innovation’ exhibition located at the Teratak Putih, UTB.

The exhibition was divided into three main clusters demonstrating the theme that highlights the involvement of graduating students in ‘Science, Technology and Innovation’ through publication of projects that contribute significant impacts to society, this is in accordance with UTB’s vision ‘Global University Impacting Society’.

The exhibition's first cluster is the Science cluster which demonstrates UTB students' ability to comprehend the fundamental knowledge learnt and explore the knowledge further through research in greater depth. The projects showcased include: The mediating role of religiosity on the influence of resilience perceived stress, and self-efficacy on life satisfaction among Brunei University students in the pandemic era; Rama-Rama: An interactive 3D animation about Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD); and Nutritional compositions of zingiber officinale pasta with the incorporation of herbal plants.

The second cluster was on Technology where it showcases the abilities of UTB students in the implemention of knowledge into practical applications by designing products and applying concepts learnt for industrial and commercial usage. Three projects were exhibited under this cluster: IoT based water quality monitoring system in relation to flood and drought in Brunei; Eco Campus / Capstone: Considering wheelchair users to poor housing accessibility with the help of collapse ramp; and Detection of an early stages hand tremors using hand movement signal.

The final part of the exhibition is the Innovation cluster which demonstrates UTB students' ability in practical implementation of ideas that results in the introduction or improvement of products/services. The projects showcased under this cluster include Non-Newtonian fluid models for blood flow analysis under abnormal rheological states and Flexible pavement improvement through chemical soil stabilisation and rubberised asphalt modification.

His Royal Highness also consented to watch performances from the university students’ clubs which include martial arts, tausyeh, traditional music, and Japanese cultural performance in front of the Pearl building of the University.

The University currently has 39 co-curricular clubs and encourages its students to take an active part in running the clubs and participate in its activities, as an avenue for recreation aside from developing important skills such as teamwork, leadership, and communication.

Before departing the festival, His Royal Highness consented to receive a Pesambah from UTB students in the form of a miniature of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (RIPAS) Bridge and consented for a photography session with members of the UTB Student Representative Council 2022/2023.

A series of events have been lined up in conjunction with the 7th UTB Convocation Festival 2022, which include Majlis Khatam Al-Quran, Leadership Workshop, K-Movie Night, Salam Programme: August Edition, UTB Carnival, UThriftB, Food Carnival, UTB Debate Competition, and University Leadership Camp.

The annual Festival is to celebrate the students who have completed their studies and will received their respective degrees at the UTB Convocation Ceremony on 5 September 2022 at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre in Berakas.
