His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al- Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) consented to officiate the UTB Convocation 2024, held at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Pro-Chancellor of UTB was also at the Ceremony.

The arrival of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince at the ICC was greeted by the Minister of Education and Chair of the UTB Council, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh; the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman; and the Registrar & Secretary of UTB, Yang Mulia Awang Lim Chui Hua.

The UTB Convocation 2024 ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

The Procession of the Chancellor into the Plenary Hall was led by the Bentara (mace-bearer) holding aloft the Mushaf Al-Quran.

This was followed by the recitation of the Verses 161-165 of Surah Al-An’am in the Holy Quran by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Wafiqah binti Haji Daim, a graduate from the Master of Science (by Research) in Food Science and Technology. Meanwhile, Yang Dayang Evy Surya Farhana binti Haji Ali-Bolkiah, a graduate from the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering read the lessons from the verses.

The Vice-Chancellor of UTB then delivered the Sembah Alu-aluan.

His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of UTB also consented to deliver the Titah.

This was followed by His Majesty conferring the Doctor of Philosophy, Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree to recipients listed in the Convocation Book. This was immediately followed by the call of ‘Allahu Akbar, Wa Llillah il Ham’ by the graduates and all present.

His Majesty then consented to present certificates to 670 graduates which include Doctor of Philosophy to eleven (11) graduates, Master’s Degree to 112 graduates and Bachelor’s Degree to 547 graduates.

To date, UTB has produced over 5,141 BDTVEC HND; 295 Higher National Diploma Level Five; 3,364 undergraduates, 626 Master’s degree and 32 Doctor of Philosophy graduates. The graduates are from academic programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering, UTB School of Business, School of Computing and Informatics, School of Applied Sciences & Mathematics, School of Design, and Centre for Communication, Teaching and Learning (CCTL).
This year’s convocation is especially significant as it marks the graduation of both the final cohort from the four-year programme and the first cohort from

the newly introduced three-year programme structure, which UTB has successfully implemented across all schools except the Faculty of Engineering.

UTB is also proud of the achievement of an 80-year-old graduate who successfully completed a Master of Science (Coursework) in Civil Engineering. He is the oldest graduate in UTB’s history, serving as an inspiration to all that lifelong learning is a vital foundation for personal development, regardless of age or the challenges faced.
