In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines presented a significant book donation to Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). The ceremony, held at the UTB Library Complex, showcased the strong cultural and educational ties between the two nations.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat. Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, delivered her welcoming remarks, followed by an address by Her Excellency Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam.

In her address, Ambassador Tirol-Ignacio highlighted the significance of fostering multicultural awareness, understanding, and appreciation to promote unity within ASEAN and beyond. Her Excellency expressed hope that “The Philippines Corner” would serve as a cultural bridge, enabling Bruneians to explore Filipino heritage while advancing efforts to enhance ASEAN awareness.

The event continued with the official launch of “The Philippines Corner” marked by the handing over of books from Her Excellency to the Vice-Chancellor of UTB. The curated collection includes books on Philippine history, culture, literature, and environmental studies, offering the UTB community an opportunity to delve into the rich heritage of the Philippines.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, alongside UTB’s Principal Officers, staff, and students.

This initiative underscores the enduring friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam, reaffirming shared values of cultural appreciation, knowledge exchange, and regional solidarity.
