In conjunction with the CIPTA Award 2023 organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in partnership with Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, the CIPTA 2023 Seminar continued on the second day with the theme ‘Spreading the Winning Vibes’ and was held in hybrid mode, physically at the Lecture Theater 2 of the UTB Library Complex virtually via Zoom platform.

Yang Mulia Dr. Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Services) of UTB served as the Guest of Honour.

The seminar began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Dr. Shahid Anjum, Deputy Head of CIPTA 2023 Seminar Committee and also the moderator of the event. In his remarks, Dr. Shahid emphasised that this seminar was conducted to motivate and inspire the youths.

“This session is conducted in line with the aim of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award competition, bringing CIPTA 2023 winners together to motivate and instill the culture for creations, inventions and innovations amongst youth and public in Brunei Darusssalam” said Dr. Shahid.

He added that sharing and discussion sessions with great inventors would enhance people's confidence to pursue their ideas and turning them into fruition. 

The first discussion focused on the Local Category 2 – Modification of Existing Product, Process or Technology and featured three projects, namely, IoT Based Water Quality Monitoring in Relations to Flood and Drought in Brunei Darussalam, represented by Yang Mulia Siti Rasyidah binti Haji Ismail; The Development of a Scaleable and Low-Cost Home-Based Physical Exercise Assessment and Monitoring AI System for Patients with Musculoskeletal Condition, represented by Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Asmah binti Haji Husaini ; and Wudhu Mist represented by Yang Mulia Mohammad Abdul Aziz bin Hj Mohd Ali.

This was followed by the second discussion on the Local Category 3: Creating New Product Process or Technology or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by the Ataru Suit Project by students from Berakas Secondary School represented by Yang Mulia Awang Mohamad Iman Al-Amin.

The Smart Junior Competition was also discussed, highlighting the projects of *Momoru: Accident Prevention Motorcycle Helmet by students from Berakas Secondary School represented by Yang Mulia Muhammad Iman Danial bin Haji Awang and another project of River-Waste Swirler by the Chung Hwa Middle School represented by Yang Mulia Angelina Lau Eng Oi.

In this session, the audience gained insights on how innovation and creation of the winner’s products were developed from ideas and the session was concluded with question-and-answer session.

The seminar is held as part of the Tech and Innovation of Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2023. The last day of the seminar will be held on 12 June 2023 at the Lecture Theater 2, Library Complex of UTB.

Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2023 is organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Tourism Development Department in collaboration with local and international government agencies, statutory bodies, higher educational institutions, stakeholders and private agencies. The Brunei MYCE 2023 is also fully supported by several official media partners, namely Radio Television Brunei (RTB), the Information Department (Pelita Brunei) and Brunei Press Sdn Bhd.
