> THE 8TH BRUNEI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY CONCLUDED WITH TWENTY BEST PAPERS

A closing ceremony was organised virtually to conclude the 8th Brunei International Conference on Engineering and Technology (BICET).

Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB. The ceremony began with a closing remark by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Mohamed Hasnain Isa, UTB Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research) as the Chair of Steering Committee, BICET 2021.

In his remarks, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research) announced that twenty recipients had been awarded throughout the conference. The papers were organised into twenty sessions, with the best presentation awards given for each session.

Professor Dr. Mohamed Hasnain stated that the theme ‘Innovation in Engineering and Technology Towards Enhancing Quality of Life and Society’ was very well reflected by the presentations. “Many issues such as greenhouse gas emission, resource depletion, environmental degradation, occupational safety, and others that pose challenges to the sustainability of this planet and our very survival were addressed, and solutions were proposed,” he added.

The Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research), who shared a quote “Think globally, act locally” cannot be more relevant given today’s global village model where physical borders are mere lines drawn on the ground and where impacts of activities in one part of the world can be easily felt in other regions. He said this makes it more important for cross-border collaborations and knowledge sharing at all levels; government, non-government, industries, academia, and others.

A total of 180 speakers encompassing the conference theme shared their work and ideas during the three-day conference. All manuscripts are peer-reviewed, and accepted papers will be published in the AIP Scopus-index Conference Proceedings. Out of all the participants, twenty recipients from Brunei, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, South Africa, Qatar, Japan, and Bangladesh were awarded for best paper presentation.

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) under the Faculty of Engineering was the organiser of the conference with Pertubuhan Ukur, Jurutera dan Arkitek (PUJA) Brunei, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, SPE International (Brunei Section), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as the supporting partners. BICET 2021 was sponsored by Berakas Power Company Sdn. Bhd., Petrokon Utama Sdn. Bhd., Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn. Bhd., and Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn. Bhd.

BICET is the flagship international conference series that UTB’s Faculty of Engineering organised over the past two decades. It is a biennial event for academicians, researchers, and engineers to share their ideas, recent issues, opinions, and research findings on the latest technological development in their respective fields.
