The second day of UTB Science, Technology and Engineering Connect (STE Connect) 2025 resumed with five conferences and five featured events held concurrently at the School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics Building in UTB.
Day 2 of the 10th Brunei International Conference on Engineering and Technology (BICET) 2025 began with a series of keynote and distinguished lectures delivered simultaneously across all engineering tracks. The sessions included Keynote 2 by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Monzur Imteaz Alam, Keynote 3 by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Wayne NP Hung, Distinguished Lecture 1 by Yang Mulia Dr. Ir. Terry Douglas Jayasuriya-Gomes, and Keynote 4 on “Biomass Conversion to Biofuels and Phenols via Thermocatalytic Platforms” by Professor Dr. R. Vinu from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India.
Following the keynotes, each engineering track proceeded with parallel sessions. The Civil Engineering track featured Parallel Session 2, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Lim Pang Jen and Yang Mulia Dr. Motiar Rahman, which included five papers. This was followed by Parallel Session 3a, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Uditha Ratnayake and Dr. Yok Hoe Yap, with three papers, and Parallel Session 3b, chaired by Yang Mulia Pg Dr. Noor Muneerah Binti Pg Hj Jeludin and Yang Mulia Dr. Uditha Ratnayake, also featuring three papers.
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering track included Parallel Session 2, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Chin-Leong Wooi and Ir. Dr. Kenneth Yeo, with five papers, followed by Parallel Session 3, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Norfauzi POKDPDP Haji Dani and Yang Mulia Dayang Norhafizah Muhammad, featuring six papers.
The Mechanical Engineering track followed the same structure, with Parallel Session 2, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Zhwan Ibrahim and Yang Mulia Awang Md Hairol bin Md Ali, presenting six papers, and Parallel Session 3, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Naseem Uddin and Yang Mulia Awang Ahmad Shamil, featuring three papers.
The Chemical and Energy Engineering track comprised Morning Parallel Session 2, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Aravind and Yang Mulia Dr. Hazwan, with six papers. Afternoon sessions included Parallel Session 3a, chaired by Dr. Sivarajasekar and Dr. Maziyar, with three papers, and Parallel Session 3b, chaired by Yang Mulia Prof. Yusuf and Yang Mulia Dr. Si, presenting five papers.
Overall, Day 2 featured seven parallel sessions and a total of 44 papers presented across the Civil, Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, and Chemical & Energy Engineering tracks, providing participants with comprehensive insights into the latest research and technological advancements in engineering.
Day 2 of the 7th International Conference on Applied Computational Intelligence in Information Systems (ACIIS) 2025 focused on workshops and interactive sessions to enhance digital engagement and computational intelligence applications. The day began with “Maximizing Digital Engagement for Public Education and Outreach,” conducted by META, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from AITI, MOE, UTB, and META, moderated by Yang Mulia Dayang Serina Ali. The afternoon included an Ideation Workshop led by Yang Mulia Prof. Toru Ishida, providing hands-on collaborative problem- solving and idea generation opportunities. In total, Day 2 comprised two workshops and one panel discussion, combining theoretical insights with practical, interactive learning experiences.
Day 2 of the 3rd International Conference on Business, Management, and Information Systems (ICBMIS) 2025 commenced with Keynote Speech II delivered by Yang Mulia Dr. Abdullah Ismail on “Transforming Universities into Innovation-Led Entrepreneurial Hubs: The Role of University-Driven Innovation Ecosystems in Fostering Sustainable Development and Economic Diversification.” The morning continued with parallel sessions across four tracks. Track I: Management, AI & Information Systems, Session 1B on AI Applications in Education, Health, and Ethics was chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Heru Susanto and Yang Mulia Pengiran Ida Nurul Fitri binti Pengiran Haji Kahar, featuring three papers, including topics on circular economy transition in Brunei Darussalam, private labels transition in India’s FMCG market, and the spillover effects of economic and trade sanctions. Track III: Economics, Session 3A on Applied and Quantitative Economics: Sustainability, Markets and Trade was chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Safi Ullah Khan and Yang Mulia Radin Jefri bin Radin Mas Basiuni, focusing on sustainable strategies in Brunei’s construction firms.
In the afternoon, Track I, Session 1C – AI-Driven Analytics & Digital Infrastructure was chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Fahmi Ibrahim and Yang Mulia Dr. Chin Han Wuen, featuring two papers on comparative analysis of OTT platforms and AI-driven project management. Track IV: Accounting and Finance, Session 4A on Financial Literacy and Digital Consumer Experience was chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Shaista Wasiuzzaman and Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Farahiyah binti Haji Kawi, featuring papers on the effects of mobile payments on financial management and tax non-compliance concepts. Track II: Entrepreneurship, Session 2B on Knowledge, Sustainability and Strategy in SME Growth was chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Ulaganathan Subramanian and Yang Mulia Liana Artini binti Haji Mohd Noor, highlighting discussions on knowledge management and environmental practices in SMEs.
The final afternoon session, Track IV, Session 4B – ESG and Market Dynamics, also chaired by Yang Mulia Dr. Shaista Wasiuzzaman and Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Farahiyah binti Haji Kawi, featured two online paper presentations on the ESG– financial nexus in Indian logistics and the correlation between gold and gold ETF markets. In total, fourteen papers were presented on Day 2, providing an engaging platform for participants to exchange insights with international researchers and explore innovative studies in business, management, and information systems.
The second day of The 2nd International Conference on Agrotechnology, Beverage and Food (ICABF 2025) opened with Keynote 2 by Yang Mulia Professor Yong Wang from the Department of Food Science and Engineering, Jinan University, China, who presented on “Enzymatic Production of Structured Lipids and Their Application in Healthy Food Development.”
The oral presentation sessions were divided into four thematic sessions chaired by experienced faculty. Session 2 on Food Technology, chaired by Yang Mulia Dr Hong Shyang Pei, featured four papers covering nitrite/nitrate analysis in meat, caffeine analysis methods, pectin extraction from red dragon fruit, and the development of tailored polymers for food packaging.
Sessions 3, 4, and 5 focused on Human Nutrition, Sustainable Food Systems, and Functional Food Ingredients and Analysis, chaired respectively by Yang Mulia Dr Mas Munira Rambli and Yang Mulia Dr Aida Maryam Basri. These sessions included 12 presentations on dietary patterns and sarcopenia, food supplement consumption habits in Brunei, development of preserved fruit pastes for ice cream, sustainable food entrepreneurship, and functional properties of yogurt, teas, and Australian native fruit extracts. The sessions concluded with research on antioxidant properties, functional characterization of legume milks for tofu production, and locally harvested red dragon fruit peels.
In total, Day 2 featured 16 paper presentations, offering participants insights into the latest research, practical applications, and emerging trends in agrotechnology and food sciences. The sessions facilitated interactive discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities, paving the way for the final day of the conference.
The second day of The 2nd International Conference on Creative Arts Design and Technology (ICCArTe 2025) featured 25 paper presentations across six parallel sessions, bringing together researchers and designers from diverse disciplines. The morning sessions included four parallel tracks: Session 1, moderated by Yang Mulia Dr Rozia Haji Adenan and Yang Mulia Dr Zul, showcased four papers on housing design and sustainability; Session 2, moderated by Yang Mulia Dr Ahmad and Yang Mulia Dr Nor Aiman, presented four papers on automotive composites, modular green systems, and photovoltaic integration; Session 3, moderated by Yang Mulia Dr Rashid and Yang Mulia Dr Zin, featured five papers on 3D printing, prosthetics, and interactive design solutions; and Session 4, moderated by Yang Mulia Dr Ali and Yang Mulia Dr Saemah, presented four papers on eco-friendly building and design innovations.
The afternoon sessions included Session 5 (online), moderated by Yang Mulia Dr Saemah and Yang Mulia Ms Wan Zaiyana, with four papers on digital delivery and gamified cultural learning, and Session 6, moderated by Yang Mulia Dr Syahida and Yang Mulia Siti Kamilah, featuring four papers on wellness devices and interactive solutions for students. The sessions offered participants opportunities to exchange insights, engage in discussions, and explore innovative approaches in creative arts, design, and technology.

1st Global Conference on Industrial, Materials and Manufacturing (GCIMM)
The second day of the 1st Global Conference on Industrial, Materials, and Manufacturing (GCIMM) 2025 featured a series of technical paper presentations and a keynote session, bringing together researchers from Brunei Darussalam, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Japan. The morning began with online presentations covering topics such as corrosion resistance of stainless steel, heat transfer enhancement in battery cooling systems, mechanical property measurements using nonlinear solitary waves, microbial fuel cells, and design enhancements for tissue engineering scaffolds.
The subsequent sessions included a keynote address by Yang Mulia Dr Azanizawati Ma’aram from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, followed by presentations on vaccine stock management dashboards, sustainable additive manufacturing filaments, mechanical properties of bioplastics, and advanced machining techniques. The afternoon sessions explored topics on service evaluation, mental workload and burnout among academicians, inventory control models, and machine learning-based prediction of youth mental health risks. In total, the second day highlighted 20 research papers, reflecting innovative approaches and advancements in industrial, materials, and manufacturing engineering.
ASEAN SUSTAINABLE READY FOR INDUSTRY 5.0 PROGRAMME 2025 (ASEAN SRI 5.0)
The second day of the ASEAN Sustainable Ready for Industry 5.0 Programme (ASEAN SRI 5.0) at UTB focused on green auditing and sustainability, bringing together participants from academia and industry to develop practical skills in evaluating energy, carbon, and environmental performance. The programme, held at the SASM Building, provided a hands-on and interactive learning experience aligned with Industry 5.0 principles and sustainable practices.
The day began with a spotlight session on the OIC-COMSTECH Youth-led Green Program, presented by Yang Mulia Engr. Renaud Blanchard Makaka. This was followed by Session 1, led by Yang Mulia Dr Sheik Mohammed Sulthan, introducing participants to climate action, low-carbon pathways, and the importance of green audits. Session 2, conducted by Yang Mulia Ir. Dr Nor Asiah binti Muhamad, provided an overview of environmental auditing principles and types, including green, energy, and carbon audits. Participants then learned about practical tools and frameworks for carbon and energy auditing, guided by Yang Mulia Awang Saiful Bahri bin Hj Md Jaafar.
In the afternoon, the programme transitioned into applied sessions, starting with Building Design Auditing by Yang Mulia Dr Zulkefle bin Ismail, which focused on evaluating energy performance, material usage, and carbon footprint in built environments. Session 5 featured a review of real-world audit case studies, facilitated by Yang Mulia Engr. Renaud Blanchard Makaka, giving participants the opportunity to discuss and analyse practical examples. The day concluded with a Group Activity – Audit Planning Simulation, where participants worked in teams to plan audits for a hypothetical building, followed by a reflection session with all facilitators, consolidating key learnings from the day.
Day 2 of ASEAN SRI 5.0 successfully combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on application, equipping participants with essential skills in green auditing and sustainable practices.
POSTGRADUATE COLLOQUIUM 2025
The Postgraduate Colloquium 2025 brought together MSc and PhD research students from UTB and other universities in Brunei for an engaging academic exchange across all disciplines. Hosted by the UTB Graduate School and Research Office in collaboration with UTB’s academic schools and faculties, the colloquium provides a platform for students to showcase the diversity and quality of postgraduate research, gain experience in presenting and discussing their work, and receive constructive feedback from peers and supervisors. The event also aims to strengthen collaborations and networking opportunities across local universities.
The first day of the colloquium featured a workshop session titled “Inside the Editor’s Mind: A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing and Submitting to High Impact Journals”, conducted by Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr Muslim Amin from AHIBS, UTB. During the session, participants learned how journal editors evaluate manuscripts, the step-by-step structure of a publishable article, common reasons for rejection and strategies to avoid them, as well as how to respond effectively to reviewers. The workshop also included a live walkthrough of the manuscript submission process, providing students with practical tools to increase their chances of publication. The colloquium will continue its final day, offering further opportunities for research presentations, discussions, and academic development.
