> OSAKA UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME (OUICP) 2022 GRADUATION AND 2023 WELCOMING CEREMONY FOR BRUNEI DARUSSALAM STUDENTS

Six students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) have completed the Osaka University International Certificate Programme: Halal Science, Technology, and Innovation (OUICP-HaSTI). This accomplishment includes three students graduating from the OUICP-HaSTI 2022 programme and three successfully concluding the OUICP-S 2023 programme. The joint graduation ceremony was celebrated virtually at the Osaka University Brunei Office through Zoom.

Hosted by Osaka University (OU), Japan and co-organised by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), and UTB, the OUICP-HaSTI program spanned ten months, incorporating online lectures and a 2-month placement at Osaka University in Japan.

The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming remark by OUICP-Halal Science Technology and Innovation (HaSTI) Programme Manager, Yang Mulia Prof. Dr. Quamrul Hasan, Centre for Global Initiative, ASEAN Campus, Osaka University.

Following that were the opening remarks by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, followed by a speech from Prof. Yamamoto Beverley Anne, Executive Vice President of International Affairs (Education), Osaka University.

The event proceeded with a video presentation of OUICP 2022 and OUICP-S 2023 journey, followed by the certificate awarding ceremony for the graduates.

The UTB students who completed OUICP 2022 were Siti Nur Asyifa Nazihah bte Andey Asmara, Hasna Basirah binti Mazalan, and Jhoorhanah binti Abdul Halim from the School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics (SASM). Abdul Wafi bin Norfadilah, Mohammad Abdul Muiz Bin Haji Sahminan from School of Computing and Informatics; and Nurzukrina Ameerah binti Awang Marzuki from SASM represented UTB as a graduate of OUICP-S 2023.

The students from their respective universities then presented their experience, followed by the presentation of appreciation of the OUICP-HaSTI invited lecturers from UBD, UNISSA and UTB. Token of appreciation was then presented to the Guest of Honour, followed by the welcoming of the new 2023 intake of OUICP.

The event ended with a closing remark by Professor Dr. Kyoshi Fuji ta, Regional Director, ASEAN Centre for Academic Initiatives, Osaka University.

The Osaka University International Certificate Programme: Halal Science, Technology and Innovation (OUICP-HaSTI) is an educational program initiated by Osaka University ASEAN Campus in collaboration with their counterparts in ASEAN countries.

Osaka University (OU) issues a certificate upon completing the program in a specific field with 6 to 8 credits.

OUICP-HaSTI is offered to graduate students of Joint Campus counterpart universities and working people (non-students) who have received at least a bachelor's degree.

The programme aims to contribute to the solution of issues in the ASEAN region while focusing on the individuality of each country's society and culture and developing infrastructure to benefit those societies through international, innovative approaches such as co-creation with industry, government, academia, and the community by nurturing advanced global human resources in the fields of bioengineering, applied physics, infectious disease, environmental engineering, halal science, biodiversity and bioresources, and Japanese language and culture.
