> OPENING CEREMONY OF THE 8TH BRUNEI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

The 8th Brunei International Conference on Engineering and Technology (BICET) 2021 was officially opened by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Ar. Awg Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Acting Minister of Development. 

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) under the Faculty of Engineering was the main organiser of the conference with Pertubuhan Ukur, Jurutera dan Arkitek (PUJA) Brunei, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International (Brunei Section), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as the supporting partners. BICET 2021 was sponsored by Berakas Power Company Sdn. Bhd., Petrokon Utama Sdn. Bhd., Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn. Bhd., and Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn. Bhd.

At the opening ceremony, a welcoming remark was delivered by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB as the Advisor of BICET 2021, followed by a speech from the Guest of Honour. The Acting Minister later officiated the opening of the BICET 2021.

Also present at the event was Yang Mulia Dayang Aldila binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Acting Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use & Environment), Ministry of Development (MOD).

The event then proceeded with two keynote presentations sharing their latest findings in their respective fields by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Janardhan Reddy Koduru from Kwangwoon University, Korea on ‘Magnetic Functionalized Graphitic Carbon Composites for Sustainable Water Remediation’ and Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Ataur Rahman from Western Sydney University, Australia on ‘Rainwater Harvesting System as a Tool to Promote Sustainable Water Management’ respectively.

Other two keynote presentations entitled ‘Effect of Trochoidal Strategy in End Milling of Titanium Alloy Ti-6Al-4V’ by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Safian Sharif from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and ‘Overview of the Current Development in Compressed Air Energy Storage’ by Yang Mulia Professor Dr. Jihong Wang from the University of Warwick will be delivered at the conference. Parallel sessions by the participants will also be held throughout the three days.

BICET is the flagship international conference series organised by UTB’s Faculty of Engineering over the past two decades. It is a biennial event for academicians, researchers, and engineers to share their ideas, recent issues, opinions and research findings on the latest technological development in their respective fields.

Carrying the theme Innovation in Engineering and Technology towards Enhancing Quality of Life and Society, this year’s conference is organised into four parallel tracks, composed of 20 sessions conducted over three days. A total of 206 papers from 30 countries were received from various fields in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum and Chemical Engineering. 

As a leading technological university, UTB nurtures socially responsible talents committed to building a global and entrepreneurial society in pursuit of innovation, industry-relevant capabilities towards the fulfillment of Brunei Vision 2035. In this capacity, UTB remains the Sultanate’s key provider of Higher Education in Engineering. BICET 2021 provides an important platform for academics, researchers, engineers, students, and experts to exchange ideas to strengthen innovative and interdisciplinary research on integrated technologies towards embracing the fourth industrial revolution (IR4.0).
