The Centre for Research on AgriFood and Science and Technology (CrAFT) of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and HARQ Enterprise have officially commenced a collaboration, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), held at the Pearl building of UTB. This strategic alliance aims to propel advancements in smart farming and artificial intelligence technologies, explicitly targeting the optimisation of chilli production.

Present as the Guest of Honour at the signing ceremony was Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB.

Also present were Yang Mulia Awang Abuzar bin Haji Mohd Tahir, Acting Director Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT); UTB Principal Officers, Officers from MPRT and HARQ Enterprise.

The event commenced with an opening remark by Yang Mulia Dr Syazana Abdullah Lim, Director of CrAFT, followed by remarks from Yang Mulia Haji Awang Abdul Qayuum bin Haji Mohammad Hanafi, Manager of HARQ Enterprise.

A project briefing on the ‘Smart Greenhouse for Chili Plant’ was presented through a comprehensive project overview by the project leader, Yang Mulia Awang Hj Ismit bin Haji Mohamad, providing a detailed roadmap for the research and development initiatives.

The event proceeded with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding. The Director of CrAFT, UTB signed on behalf of the university, while the Manager of HARQ Enterprise represented the corporate entity.

The MoU reflects the commitment of both UTB and HARQ Enterprise to fostering scientific knowledge and discoveries through collaborative research activities. Recognising the transformative potential of smart farming and artificial intelligence technologies, the partnership establishes a structured framework for joint research initiatives to bring practical advancements to the field.

The collaboration between UTB and HARQ Enterprise represents a significant milestone in bridging the gap between academia and industry, fostering innovation and technological solutions for the future of sustainable agriculture.
