In conjunction with the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) 2023 Competition Judging Week that took place from 16 – 19 May 2023, an Appreciation Dinner was organised to honor the esteemed panel of judges. The event took place at the Mahligai Hall, Level 3, Airport Mall, Bandar Seri Begawan.

The Guest of Honour at the event was Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).

Commencing with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, the ceremony proceeded with a welcoming remark by the Co-Head of Technical Committee, Yang Mulia Pengiran Dr Rafidah binti Pengiran Haji Petra. Subsequently, the Guest of Honour presented certificates of appreciation and souvenirs to the esteemed judges of the competition.

The CIPTA 2023 Organising Committee has enlisted the expertise of three judges from ASEAN and five judges from diverse academic and industry backgrounds to evaluate a total of 41 local and 7 ASEAN participating entries.

The esteemed judges from Malaysia include Yang Mulia Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Sivarao Subramonian, Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr Wan Zuha Wan Hasan, and Professor Ir. Dr. Tan Chee Fai. The local judges are Yang Mulia Ir. Chin Lee Tuck, Yang Mulia Ir. Dr. Tang Shi Siong, Yang Mulia Mohd Rozaini Manap, Yang Mulia Ak Md Rafiuddin Bin Pg Saharuddin, and Yang Mulia Moh Yee Lin.

The general criteria for judging the projects include novelty, originality, or creativity of the work; the potential for commercial application and its contribution to societal development; successful deployment of the end product, as well as the completeness of the report and the quality of the presentation.

The Crown Prince CIPTA Award is a biennial competition organised by UTB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd. CIPTA 2023 marks the tenth edition of this competition and is centered around the theme of ‘Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals’.

There are three local categories in CIPTA 2023: 'Category 1 – Creating New Product, Process or Technology'; 'Category 2 - Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology'; and 'Category 3 - Creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors'. Additionally, the ‘Smart Junior Competition’ is specifically designed for lower secondary school students (Year 7-9) in the country. Meanwhile, the ASEAN Category welcomes participation from individuals or teams representing ASEAN countries other than Brunei Darussalam. The ASEAN category is further divided into sub-categories: New Invention & Innovation Category, and the Young Inventor Category.

Following a rigorous assessment conducted throughout the judging week, the victors of the highly anticipated CIPTA 2023 competition are set to be revealed on Thursday, 8th June 2023, at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.
