Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) hosted the closing ceremony of the Chancellor’s Trophy 2022 held at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, Jerudong. The Chancellor’s Trophy was consented by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPUSB), on 5 August 2021.
Since its establishment in 2021, Chancellor’s Trophy hopes that this tournament will inspire the growth of sports, competitions, and camaraderie between Public and Private Higher Education Institutions in Brunei. This Chancellor’s Trophy also focuses on collaborative efforts between University’s Leaders and respective Student Councils, spearheaded by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) as 2022 host, to organise, conduct, and execute competitions in the format and aspects of physical sports, non-sports, intellectual, and cultural.
Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education.
Also present during the event were Yang Mulia Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education);Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB; Yang Mulia Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kiflie, Vice-Chancellor of UBD; Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Nor Arfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA; Yang Mulia Dr Chin Wei Keh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) and Yang Mulia Awang Adi Rani Sofian bin Abdul Rahman, representing Ra’es of KUPUSB.
The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat. The Chair of the Chancellor's Trophy 2022 and President of the Student Representative Council (MPPUTB) 2022/2023, Yang Mulia Dayang Ummi Salamah binti Haji Mohamad Firdaus, then delivered a welcoming remark.
This was followed by a multimedia presentation and performances of the Chancellor’s Trophy 2022 by the participating institutions which were divided into three segments: religious, sports, and cultural performances.
In the religious segment, KUPUSB presented Tausyeh while UNISSA performed Hadrah. The sports performances featured UTB demonstrating Tarik Kalat and Badminton. KUPUSB presented Gulingtangan and Pidato for the cultural performances.
The event continued with the announcement and trophy presentation for the winner of the Chancellor's Trophy 2022. Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) was crowned as the champion, followed by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) in second place and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in third.
The event came to a close with the announcement of the next host for Chancellor’s Trophy 2024, followed by the UTB Vice-Chancellor handing over the Chancellor's Trophy flag to the UBD Vice-Chancellor.
