To acknowledge the World Cancer Day (celebrated every 4th February) and Women's International Day (celebrated every 8th March), the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) Wellness Research Thrust (WRT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and supported by UTB Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE), ExCo HSSE, and ExCo International Affairs, organized a 'Breast Cancer Awareness Talk.' The talk was conducted in Lecture Theater 2 at the university.
The talk was delivered by invited speakers from Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital and moderated by Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Head, WRT, UTB.
During the 'Breast Cancer Awareness Talk,' Puan Dr. Amalina PD Hj Suyoi, a Breast Cancer Specialist at RIPAS Hospital, introduced breast cancer, along with statistics related to the disease in Brunei. Additionally, she discussed the various stages and symptoms of breast cancer, along with methods for reducing the risk of developing the disease.
Meanwhile, Puan Dr. Nor Lenny Abdullah, Consultant and Head of Radiology at RIPAS Hospital, gave a brief presentation on cancer diagnosis and the use of mammography and breast ultrasound to detect early signs of breast cancer.
The primary objective of the 'Breast Cancer Awareness Talk' was to generate awareness of the challenges associated with Breast Cancer in Brunei Darussalam. Additionally, the talk aimed to provide critical recommendations and tips on preventive measures for Breast Cancer.
