> BOOK DONATION AND LAUNCHING OF TURKIYE CORNER

His Excellency Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoy, The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkiye, Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Brunei Darussalam, donated 47 books covering a wide range of subjects, including Literature, History, Arts, and Sciences to Universiti Teknologi Brunei in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), a government department subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkiye. This exchange will establish cooperation in education, training, arts, linguistics and culture between UTB and Turkish Universities.

The handover was held this afternoon at the UTB Library, Library Complex. The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat followed by a Welcoming Remark by Yang Mulia Dr. Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB and a speech from His Excellency Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkiye then proceeded with the book donation and the launching of ‘Turkiye Corner’ in UTB library.

The establishment of the Book Corner of Turkiye provides UTB students, faculty, and researchers with a dedicated space to delve into the intellectual heritage of Turkiye.

In his speech, the Acting Vice Chancellor of UTB expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye and TIKA for their generosity and support in enhancing UTB’s academic resources. He emphasised the Book Corner’s role in fostering cross-cultural dialogue and global perspectives within the UTB community.

His Excellency Prof. Dr. Hamit Ersoy mentioned in his speech “I would like to highlight that this is only the beginning of a long-term cooperation. Turkiye, with its 209 universities (129 state, 80 private), EU compatible education system and with numerous programmes that teaches in English has become an important centre of attraction for international students and efforts to increase global collaborations through travel, employment, education and internship opportunities.” His Excellency also donated an extra book titled ‘Growing Friendship: The Republic of Turkiye and Brunei Darussalam’ as part of the collection.

The Turkiye Book Corner also reflects the university’s commitment to providing diverse educational resources, promoting cultural exchange, and advancing academic excellence. Moreover, it symbolises unity between Brunei and Turkiye, further promoting mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds between the two nations.
