Computer Network and Security (CNS)

 

Introduction

Computer Network Security Programme Area is one of the programme areas in the School of Computing and Informatics.

This Programme Area offers Bachelor’s (Hons) degree programme in Computer Network and security to provide students with the skill and knowledge to make practical and valuable contributions to national computer network development.

In addition to the Academic Degree programme, we would also focus on research solving issues about Networking & Security in Wired, Wireless, Mobile, Cloud, Internet of Things. The Degree students in this programme area would thus have an opportunity to work on such research issues towards their final year project contributing to the networking industry.

The programme is designed to equip graduates with the necessary academic knowledge and hands-on experience to solve some of the challenging issues of the Networking and Telecommunication Industry and Security Organizations.

The academic staff members in our programme area have adequate educational and industrial experience in networking and information security.

After their study in this programme area, we hope that students will find themselves well-equipped with skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience to be employed in networking industries and security organizations. They can also pursue higher degrees in Networking and Security.

 

Admission Requirements

  1. Malay language: Grade C or higher at GCE O-Level (applicable only for Bruneians applying for a Government Scholarship)
  2. English Language: Grade C or higher at GCE O-Level, OR IELTS: Band 6.0, OR TOEFL: Minimum score of 550. (The English Language requirements may be waived where qualifying higher education studies were in the English Language medium. However, where candidates complete their higher education more than two (2) years before their current application, they will need to show that they have continued to study or work in the medium of English.)
  3. Relevant Qualifications:

A minimum of a credit six (C6) in Mathematics GCE O-level or its equivalent

AND

Either one of the following (A, B, C or D):

A. 'A'-Levels:

       i. minimum 200 'A' Level points for 3 'A' level passes, subjects include:
          – one subject from Group A and two subjects from Group B or
          – two subjects from Group A and one subject from Group B or
          – three subjects from Group A.

       OR

       ii. minimum 180 'A' Level points for 2 'A' level passes, subjects include:
           – at least one subject from Group A and one subject from Group B or
           – two subjects from Group A.

A-level subjects:

Group A:
Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Computer Studies/Science and Thinking Skills

Group B:
Applied ICT/IT, Accounting, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Design & Technology, Economics, Geography, History, Psychology, Sociology, English Literature, Media Studies, and Travel & Tourism.

B. International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)

minimum 24 points with a minimum of 4 points in the standard level subjects in one of the following:
I. One subject from Group B1 and two subjects from Group B2
II. Two subjects from Group B1 and one subject from Group B2

Group B1: Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science

Group B2: Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History, Design Technology, Psychology, Economics, English Literature, Business Management

C. BTEC/BDTVEC Higher National Diploma

BTEC/BDTVEC HND in Computing, Business or any related Engineering Fields (e.g., Network, Electronic and Electrical Engineering)

      • within two(2) years of the proposed admission date: minimum overall average of 60%.
      • over two(2) years of the proposed admission date: considered on a case–by–case basis, minimum overall average of 60% and must show relevant work or other experience.

D. Other qualifications

Applicants with other qualifications will be considered case-by-case, considering any relevant work or experience.
