Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) recently welcomed a group of 19 visitors from Masin Secondary School, comprising three teachers and sixteen Year 11 students who visited the university to gain deeper insight into the academic and career pathways offered by the Faculty of Engineering.
The group was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Dean (Academic) of the Faculty of Engineering, Pg Dr Seri Rahayu binti Pg Ya’akub, who also serves as the faculty’s representative.
The programme began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Hj Ismit bin Hj Mohammad, Acting Programme Leader of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This was followed by a briefing on the faculty’s structure and academic offerings presented by Pg Dr Seri Rahayu.
Following the briefing, each engineering programme was introduced through presentations delivered by their respective Programme Leaders or Acting Programme Leader.:
Civil Engineering – Dr Lim Pang Jen
Electrical and Electronic Engineering – Hj Ismit bin Hj Mohammad
Mechanical Engineering – Dr Denni Kurniawan
Petroleum and Chemical Engineering – Dr Tan Yie Hua
Following the presentations, the students were taken on a guided tour of several key laboratories and research facilities, including:
AiML Lab, led by Ak Muhammad Rahimi bin Pg Hj Zahari, Lecturer, Electrical and Electronic Engineering
STI Lab – Shell Eco-marathon, led by Khairuddin bin Hj Ghafar, Lecturer, Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Material Testing Centre, led by Murhamdilah bin Morni, Lecturer, Mechanical Engineering
Engineering Product Development Lab, led by Dr Maziri bin Dr Hj Morsidi, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering
This visit provided students with valuable exposure to the real-world applications of engineering and the wide range of specialisations available at UTB. It also encouraged them to broaden their understanding of potential academic and career pathways in the field.
By experiencing the university environment first-hand and engaging with faculty members and cutting-edge facilities, students are better equipped to make informed decisions about their future education and careers. Programmes like these play an important role in inspiring the next generation of engineers, who will contribute to Brunei's national development in science, technology, and innovation.
