UTB WON BRONZE AWARD IN THE QS-APPLE 2018

22 November 2018 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei won the Bronze Award in the QS-APPLE Creative Award for the best international print advertisement during the 2018 Quacquarelli-Symonds Asia Pacific Professional Leaders in Education (QS-APPLE) held in Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea. The announcement was made on 21 November 2018.

UTB winning international print advertisement, “A Global University impacting society” was judged based on four criteria namely: concept, design, layout and content. The concept was assessed based on its imaginative and unique content that can capture the essence of the idea behind the advertisement while the content must be clear, impactful and tells a story that supplemented by the design and layout.

Receiving the award was the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Professor Dr Dayang Hjh Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman. Also in attendance were Dr Lim Tiong Hoo, Director of Planning and Development Office (PDO), and Dr Aida Maryam Binti Basri, Strategic Coordinator for PDO.

This year, 29 institutions of higher learning participated in the competition. UTB was shortlisted for Best International Website, Most Creative Corporate Institution Video, and Best International Student Recruitment Brochure. UTB first won the QS Creative Award in 2015 for the Best International Website.

The UTB delegatation was in Seoul, South Korea to participate in the QS-APPLE 2018 conference and exhibition held from 21 to 23 November 2018. QS-APPLE is the oldest Asia-Pacific international higher education conference and exhibition. It was first held in 2005. The objective of QS-APPLE is to create an inclusive platform for all higher education leaders from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond to share ideas related to the changes taking place, and how they can accelerate the advancement of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year QS-APPLE with the theme, “Future Universities in The Asia-Pacific: The Changing Face of Higher Education” has attracted more than 80 different topics related to the internationalisation of the student body and faculty, promoting the global employability of graduates, enhancing the global impact and reputation of research and building a global university brand. Dr Lim Tiong Hoo, the Director of PDO presented a talk on the impact of industrial 4.0 in Higher Education on student global employment.

Over 580 university leaders and academics from 40 different countries participated in the event and 57 universities participated in the exhibition including UTB.

During the event, UTB was also presented with the prestigious QS 5-star rating certificate by Ms Mandy Mok, the CEO of QS Branding & Conferences by QS Asia, Singapore. UTB was awarded with an overall 5 Stars Rating University in Brunei by QS in August 2018.
