3 November 2019 – Seven cyclists of the UTB cycling team competed in the annual Varsity Cycling Challenge 2019 organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) on 31 October 2019 in Malacca, Malaysia. This is the third time the UTB cycling team joined the annual competition.
This year, representing the UTB cycling team were six staff including Dr. Ahmad Syamaizar bin Hj Ahmad Sabli; Awang Hamdani bin Hj Ibrahim; Dr. Hj Md Khairul Jaafar bin Hj Masri; Dr. Fahmi bin Ibrahim; Awang Osman bin Hj Suhele; and Awang Zainidi bin Hj Abd Hamid and one student, Awang Muhamad Syazwi Azhar bin Muhamad Hairolrani.
The UTB cycling team participated in the VIP Highway category (33.6km) and Awang Muhamad Syazwi Azhar joined the IPT Male Student Highway category (44.8km). Cyclists from various universities and schools in Malaysia such as International Islamic University Malaysia, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang and others also took part in the challenge.
During the race, the team cycled their way formidably fast to the finish line where Dr. Fahmi arrived at second place and as for the other three members finished at the top 10 respectively, Awang Hamdani (8th); Awang Zainidi (9th) and Dr. Hj Md Khairul Jaafar (10th). The team performed exceptionally well this year and is already looking forward to competing in the next year’s challenge.
The challenge was divided into four categories namely IPT Male Student Highway (44.8km); IPT Female Student Highway (33.6km); IPT Male Staff Highway Open (44.8km); and VIP Highway category (33.6km). The riders were flagged off at the Chancellor Hall of UTeM at Durian Tunggal.
