Vice-Chancellor’s Welcome Message

Assalamualaikum Warrahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Welcome to Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

Alhamdulillah, since its establishment in 1986, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) which was previously known as Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), has seen encouraging growth in quality of teaching and learning, research publications, graduate students intake and  collaborations with stakeholders.

Over the years, UTB has produced over 6,400 graduates and many of the graduates have achieved notable success ranging from winning international competitions, receiving scholarships for further studies, getting job offers to setting up their own company. At UTB, we tried to create a learning environment that is intellectually stimulating, diverse and rewarding. Both our undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes provide students with various skill sets and knowledge that can help in their professional development. Our modules and programmes are hands-on, relevant to industrial needs and the nation.

Currently UTB has 21 undergraduate, 5 taught Masters, Masters by Research and PhD Programmes. The new academic year 2017/2018 welcomed a total of 468 comprising of 408 undergraduate and 60 postgraduate students. The cohort include students from newly introduced Food Science and Technology, Applied Mathematics and Economics, Computing with Data Analytics and BriTE@UTB programmes. There has been a great leap in the total number of postgraduate students, from just 24 students in 2016 and to 159 students in 2017.

I am pleased to inform you that UTB has preceded its Vision “to be amongst the best 10 universities for Engineering and Technology in Southeast Asia by 2018” by being top 9 Universities of Engineering and Technology in Southeast Asia before its target year. With this debut ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), UTB is in the 165th place for Universities in Asia. On 11th September 2017, UTB was rated a four star institution overall with five star each in teaching, employability, internationalisation, facilities, inclusiveness and social responsibility.

It has been a long journey for UTB to achieve this significant milestone. We will continue this journey and may Allah SWT bless us in our next endeavour. Amin.

Thank you.
