Rules & Regulations

  • All library users must abide by all library rules and regulations.
  • The library reserves the right to warn anyone disobeying any library rules and regulations and will not hesitate to take further action.
  • Only registered members approved by the Senior Librarian are allowed to use the library.
  • Eating, drinking (except plain/mineral water), smoking, and sleeping are not permitted anywhere in the library at all times.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the reading and public areas of the library except at the Library Café.
  • Good behaviour must be always maintained, and the noise level must be kept down. Anyone with disruptive behaviour will be asked to leave the library.
  • Library users must try to maintain a proper dress code with complete cleanliness and modesty.
  • Damaging, tearing off pages and making marks on any library is a serious offence and will be brought to the attention of the UTB Student Affairs Section.
  • Bags, cases, etc can be deposited in a locker provided by the library if required. Otherwise, any personal belongings will need to be checked by the library staff at the library's main entrance.
  • Removing any library belongings or moving them to other spots without permission is not permitted.
  • Anyone found to be taking items without permission or any valid loaning record can be accused of theft and will be brought to the attention of the UTB Management/Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Any items taken from the shelves must be returned on any book trolleys or any empty spaces on the bookshelves.
  • All library users must maintain complete cleanliness in the library and ensure that all tables and chairs are kept tidy after use. Any litter must be thrown in the bin provided.
  • The library will not be responsible for any personal items left unattended inside and outside the library’s building.
  • Membership payments from external users and lost/damaged library items will only be accepted between 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM during working days.

 

MEMBERSHIP

This is open to:

  • UTB Academic and Non-Academic Staff, Students and Support Staff.
  • Civil servants of the Government of Brunei Darussalam and the local private sectors through External Membership.
  • The 12 selected institutions for Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme (RBS).

All user categories are required to:

  • Complete an application form and submit it to the library.
  • Produce a photocopy of IC (front & back) with signature and date.
  • Produce a photocopy of Student/Staff ID (front & back) with signature and date.

 

FINES

  • A charge of BND$0.20/day for books and BND$0.50/day for audiovisual and short loans is imposed for any items returned after the due date.
  • Lost/damaged library items (including locker key):
    • Each borrower must report immediately to the library if any library items borrowed under his/her name are found missing/damaged.
    • A charge will be imposed according to the price of the book/locker key when purchased plus an admin fee of B$5.00.
  • Late renewal of locker key will be fine BND$1.00/hour.
  • Not returning or keeping the locker key overnight will be fine BND$5.00/day.
  • Lost/damaged locker key will be fine BND$25.00.
