22 September 2019 – On the occasion of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU-SB) 73rd Birthday, the Varsity Cycle 6.0, a donation drive for the Learning Ladders Society was co-organised by the universities.
The charitable cycling expedition began at UTB and was flagged by Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at 6:30am. More than 200 participated the event, amongst the cyclist who took part the expedition were Yang Mulia Datin Dr. Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD; Yang Mulia Awang Haji Ady Syarmin bin Hj Md Taib, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB; Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA; and Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Ra’es of KUPU-SB. Other participants included senior officials, lecturers, staff and students of the four universities, as well as members of the public.
The 73km cycling expedition started from UTB to Tungku Highway and Jalan Menteri Besar heading towards Prime Minister’s Office for the 14km first pitstop hosted by UNISSA. The expedition continued by cycling along the Jalan Utama Berakas and Muara-Tutong Highway towards the Muara roundabout. From there, the participants head back using the Muara-Tutong Highway heading towards the 52km second pitstop near the Lambak Flyover hosted by KUPU-SB. The participants then continued their journey along Rimba Highway before merging onto the Empire Hotel and Country Club roundabout then cycling back to the Integrated Science Building, UBD, where the route of the Varsity Cycle 6.0 ended.
