07 October 2018 –  In conjunction with the 72nd birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), and Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU-SB), the Varsity Cycle 4.0 was organised – a donation drive for the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei. The charitable cycling expedition was jointly organised by UBD, UNISSA, UTB, and KUPU SB.

The expedition started at UTB and was flagged-off by Yang Mulia Dr Chin Wei Keh, Acting Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education at 6:30am. More than 300 participated the Varsity Cycle, amongst the cyclist who took part of the expedition were Yang Mulia Datin Dr Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Yang Mulia Dr Awang Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA, Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, and Dr Awang Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Acting Ra’es KUPU SB. The expedition also saw the participation of senior officials, lecturers, staff and students of the four universities, as well as members of the public.

In the 4th edition of the Varsity Cycle, participants cycled along a 72km route covering the Muara-Tutong Highway, the Tungku Link and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway towards Bandar Seri Begawan for the first pit-stop at the Prime Minister’s Office, which was hosted by UNISSA. They then continued their way to the second pit-stop hosted by KUPU-SB at the Lambak Flyover. The Varsity Cycle 4.0 ended at the Integrated Science Building, UBD.
