27 February 2020 – For the third year running, students under the Creative Computing Programme Area, School of Computing and Informatics, UTB created and won the cybersecurity awareness video competition organised by the Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT). The competition focused on various cybersecurity and online safety issues.
Dayang Nurul Rina Haryantie binti Abdullah from UTB won first place with her video entitled ‘Oversharenting’, followed by Mohamad Haziq Wa’ie Bin Husaini in second place with a video entitled ‘Technoference’. The prize presentation ceremony was presented by Yang Mulia Awang Azman Iskandar Ariffin, Chief Information Officer of ITPSS. The winners were rewarded with cash prizes, movie tickets and certificates.
BruCERT chose the top videos based on clarity of message, creativity of storyline and quality of work produced, to be used for its ongoing public awareness campaign.
The awareness videos will be aired in the local television adverts, Times Cineplex adverts, and on BruCERT’s social media accounts starting March 2020. To date, six videos by the Creative Computing students have been broadcasted by BruCERT.
BruCERT is part of IT Protective Security Services Sendirian Berhad (ITPSS) – a national referral agency dealing with computer-related and internet-related security in Brunei Darussalam. It engages in public awareness initiatives, highlighting online threats, cyber safety and dispenses advise on securing personal information.
