27 October 2019 – After a period of two months working on their robots, six engineering students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) will compete in an international robotic competition in Tashkent Uzbekistan from 27 until 31 October 2019.
The UTB robotic team is led by Yang Mulia Pg Muhammad Nazri bin Pg Hj Ahmad a lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering under the Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme area.
The 1st international robotic competition is jointly organised by COMSTECH in partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat, Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The competition is open to OIC member countries for participants between 17 and 23 years. Thirty countries will be participating in this year’s competition.
UTB robotics teams will be competing in two categories. The first category is Robot Sumo where an autonomous robot pushes another robot out of the ring. The second category is Robo-Football where two distance-controlled robots play football on the field.
Muhammad Isyraq bin Zaki and Muhammad Sharifudeen bin Ramudin students currently undertaking Mechatronic Engineering programme area were two of the lucky contestants selected to receive full scholarship from COMSTECH to attend the competition. The scholarship covers tickets, meals and accommodation during the competition dates. The rest of the UTB Robotic team members received kind sponsorship from Brunei LNG, TOTAL, SHELL, ITPSS, Royal Brunei, E Suria and En Voy Transport.
The aims of the robotic competition are to help produce a generation of educators and learners who are creative and competitive in line with nurturing first class mentality human capital that is able to raise knowledge and innovation. It also aims to foster unity and encourage exchange of views among participants who have strength in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
