9 March 2020 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) took home the champion title in the 2nd University Cup Pool Tournament after the team defeated Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in the final match yesterday.
The tournament was organised by Master Alim Pool Cafe Management and supported by Brunei Cue Sports Association and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. It was held from 25 February until 8 March 2020 at the Master Pool Cafe in Kiulap. The eight-day tournament was divided into three categories comprising of Single 9-ball, Single 8-ball and Scotch Double 9-ball.
A total of four players represented UTB namely; Muhammad Sallehin bin Rosli and Awangku Muhammad Asyraf Aditya bin Pengiran Khalid Shah from Faculty of Engineering, Muhammad Tadjul Ariffin bin Redzuan Sani and Muhammad Najib bin Abdul Rahim from UTB School of Business.
In the final match which was held on 8 March 2020, Awangku Muhammad Asyraf sealed a 7-1 victory over UBD in the Single 8-ball category. As for Scotch Double 9-ball, Muhammad Tadjul and Muhammad Najib breezed to a 7-3 win over UBD. However, Single 9-ball won by UBD in a race to seven match with the score of 7-3.
Also present during the final match and handed the prizes, were Yang Mulia Pengiran Md Saiful Azri bin Pengiran Roslee, Secretary General of Brunei Cue Sports Association and Yang Mulia Pengiran Md Faiq Hafizuddin bin Pengiran Hj Jalaludin, Manager of Master Alim Pool & Cafe.
UTB competed with the Brunei higher institutions such as UBD, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Politeknik Brunei, Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and Cosmopolitan College. UBD finished as runner-up while UNISSA bagged the third place.
