24 July 2018 – Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held a Groundbreaking Ceremony today to mark the construction of the new School of Design Complex. The new complex will be built at Phase 2 of the University.
Present during the ceremony was the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, the Vice Chancellor of UTB, and it was witnessed by the Principal Officers of UTB.
The new development is built by LSL Sdn Bhd, one of the leading Construction Company in Brunei Darussalam.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed with the ground breaking ceremony, and Doa Selamat to bless the historic moment. It was then continued with the Signing of Contract Agreement between UTB and LSL Sdn Bhd.
Signing on behalf of UTB was Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah Binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB in the presence of Mr Lim Chui Hua, Acting Registrar and Secretary of UTB, and signing on behalf of LSL Sdn Bhd, Dato Paduka Haji Ahmad bin Kadi, Director of LSL with the presence of Mr Jimmy Wong, General Manager of LSL.
The new building will have its own gallery, studios and offices and hoped to be completed by the end of September 2018. The School of Design (SDe) is a new faculty in UTB and offers the first Undergraduate Degree programmes in Architecture and Product Design in the country. The first cohort will join UTB on 30 July 2018. The school offers 2 four-year programmes in Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architecture, and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Product Design.
