27 November 2018 – The Knowledge Convention (Majlis Ilmu) 2018 was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at a ceremony held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Agricultural Sector: the Survivability of the People and Nation’. It was organised in conjunction with His Majesty’s 72nd birthday celebration.
This year, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) participated at the Ecosystem and Agrotechnology Exhibition areas. The exhibition took place at ICC for one week starting from 27 November 2018 to 3 December 2018. At the Agrotechnology exhibition area, UTB showcased projects on ‘Internet of Things in Smart Farms’; ‘Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture’; ‘Centre for Research on Agri-Good Science & Technology (CrAFT)’, and ‘Food Science & Technology’.
Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, UTB Vice-Chancellor also delivered the Premier Talk of the Knowledge Convention 2018 at the Plenary Hall of ICC. The talk was a major component of the Knowledge Convention entitled “Women as the supports for the nation’s aspirations in the field of agriculture”. The talk was graced by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh-Abrahaman. Also in attendance were her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador at-Large the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam.
Yang Mulia Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, in her Premier Talk explained the successful involvement of several local women in agriculture. She also highlighted a number of factors attributed to the success of those women including strong spirit and diligence as well as family support and making agriculture a source of income.
