UTB GRADS ACQUIRE TWO WINNING SPOTS AT BICTA 2019

18 September 2019 – Major celebration for Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) as the graduates won second and third place under the Tertiary Category at the Awards Ceremony of Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2019 that was held at The Core residential college, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)

BICTA is an annual event co-organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), and InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT industry.

Presenting the awards to the winners was the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.

Winning at the second place was Awang Muhammad Nur Al-Hafiz bin Haji Hamidi, a graduate from Computing programme, School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) with the project ‘Stroke Recovery Tool using Arduino for Stroke Rehabilitation’ that involves the development of a cost-effective game prototype for upper limb rehabilitation of stroke patient that involves manouvering an in game plane across obstacles. The scores of the game will be recorded in a database and shown in a web system to show the progress of the patients.

Third place went to Awang Dhiya Ul Mahzhuzh bin Haji Ahmad, Dayang Hafizah Diyana binti Awang Haji Anuar, and Mohamad Zuhair Arif bin Hj Shahrum who are graduates and a third year student from Computer Network and Security programme, SCI with the project ‘Automated paddy watergate and water distribution through the application of alternate wetting and drying’ that controls water irrigation to the paddy fields in Wasan through the application of smart alternate wetting and drying.

This year’s BICTA carries the theme ‘Innovation for Digital Nation’ that emphasises on the importance of innovation to achieve Brunei’s Vision 2035. BICTA is divided into three categories namely Secondary School Category, Industry Category and Tertiary Category in which UTB participated.

The participants received the opportunity to be mentored by experts from various fields during the BICTA Plus Bootcamp, which was held last month. The bootcamp aimed to enhance the participants’ ideas/prototypes/products to be globally marketable.
