THE USE OF SIMULATOR IN DENTAL SURGICAL TRAINING

10 December 2019 – The School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) hosted a technical talk at SCI Lecture Theatre of the University.

About twenty attendees comprised of lecturers and students from UTB were present at the talk conducted by Professor Peter Haddaway, Faculty of ICT from Mahidol University, Thailand.

Professor Haddaway introduced the International Virtual Environments for Surgical Training that focuses on dental training system with haptic interface that allows students and experts to practice dental procedures in a virtual environment or simulator.

The simulator able to monitor and classify the performance of an operator into expert categories which allow students to understand the correct dental procedures. It simulates the tooth preparation procedure both graphically, using a video display and haptic device.

This was then followed by an open discussion on harnessing students’ project into applicable research among the attendees.
