4 February 2020 – A talk on ‘Brunei Darussalam Climate Change Position‘ was held at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library Complex, UTB yesterday. The talk was part of the Energy and Environment and Sustainability for Engineers module under the Mechanical Engineering programme and Civil Engineering programme respectively.
About fourty-five undergraduate students from both programmes attended the talk facilitated by Yang Mulia Dayang Noor Dina Zharina binti Hj Yahya, Head of Brunei Climate Change Secretariat (BCCS).
At the talk, Dayang Noor Dina Zharina explained about climate change and global commitments in reducing the GHG emissions such as the Paris Agreement where all countries are committed to reduce the GHG emissions and to keep the global change increase under 1.5 degree celsius.
Due to widespread recognition of the adverse consequences of this phenomena, she also shared Brunei’s target and climate actions in addressing these issues. She added that Brunei is currently drafting its first Climate Policy.
The talk aimed to support the students’ learning about the causes and effects of climate change as well as to apply the knowledge learnt in the classroom and relate it to the real life scenarios.
